Designed by Echelle Architects, L’Oréal’s offices in Cairo establish a contemporary workplace that balances brand expression with operational efficiency. Located at bureau58 in New Cairo, the project translates L’Oréal’s global philosophy of “Create the beauty that moves the world” into a spatial framework that supports collaboration, flexibility, and daily performance. Rather than relying on overt visual gestures, the design integrates branding as a functional layer within the architecture, creating an environment that is expressive yet disciplined.
The workplace accommodates a wide range of business activities through a mix of formal meeting rooms, informal collaboration zones, agile work areas, and social spaces. This diversity allows teams to shift easily between focused work and collective exchange, supporting evolving workflows within a single, coherent spatial system.
Spatial organisation and brand integration
The office is conceived as an open showroom, where product identity is embedded directly into the spatial layout. Upon entry, visitors encounter a central product display that establishes an immediate connection to the brand. Smaller, curated displays are distributed throughout the office, subtly defining departmental zones without relying on conventional partitions. This approach maintains openness and visual continuity while reinforcing L’Oréal’s diverse portfolio.
Shared spaces play a central role in daily life. The cafeteria, designed as both a social hub and an informal meeting area, draws its colour palette from current makeup trends, linking workplace culture to product innovation. A large-scale graffiti wall featuring L’Oréal brands further reinforces identity while contributing to a relaxed, creative atmosphere.
An outdoor terrace extends the workplace beyond the interior, offering panoramic views of the surrounding promenade. This space provides employees with access to daylight, fresh air, and informal gathering opportunities, supporting well-being and reinforcing the connection between interior and city.
Sustainability and environmental performance
The project is notable as Egypt’s first interior design and construction initiative to achieve LEED Platinum certification, setting a new benchmark for sustainable workplace environments in the region. Environmental strategies focus on reducing operational energy use, improving indoor environmental quality, and supporting occupant comfort.
High-performance lighting, efficient mechanical systems, and responsible material selection contribute to reduced energy demand and lower environmental impact. The open-plan layout maximises daylight penetration, minimising reliance on artificial lighting while enhancing visual comfort. Low-emission finishes and materials support healthy indoor air quality, aligning sustainability goals with employee well-being.
The project received the BIG 5 Award for Commercial Project of the Year, recognising its integration of sustainability, brand identity, and workplace performance.
