In 2018, Laserfiche, a provider of intelligent content management and business process automation, commissioned Studio One Eleven to design a new global headquarters in Long Beach, California. Completed during the pandemic, the building reflects changing expectations of workplace use and organisation. Rather than a conventional office, the headquarters supports a hybrid working model that combines digital-first operations with spaces for in-person collaboration and shared use, as well as encouraging creativity and promoting well-being.
A workplace inspired by technology
Laserfiche’s digital products informed aspects of the design approach. The building is organised to support adaptable use, operational efficiency, and intuitive movement, aligning with a hybrid working model that accommodates both remote and in-person collaboration.
Large open-plan floorplates support visibility and shared use, complemented by flexible meeting areas and collaborative zones. Folding doors and glazed partitions allow spaces to be expanded or divided as required.
Materiality and performance
The building integrates a range of materials and building systems to support durability and occupant comfort. Glazed fenestration introduces daylight and visual connection across the façade, while insulation and metal panels contribute to thermal performance. High-performance coatings and paints are used for durability.
Outdoor and shared spaces are incorporated as part of the overall workplace environment. Paved and landscaped areas with metal planters and concrete seating support outdoor use, while perimeter panels and gates define site boundaries and access.
Sustainable and resilient design
The project incorporates systems and materials selected for durability, maintenance requirements, and indoor environmental performance. These include sub-grade waterproofing systems, external cladding, protective coatings, and acoustic panels. Retractable and folding doors support ventilation and flexible movement between interior and exterior spaces.
