Building a package manager is hard, and getting a package manager adopted requires the network
effect of a community using it. Jordi, Nils, et al have done a fantastic job with Composer, and it
has a near 100% buy-in from the community, with hundreds of thousands of published packages.
It already supports *requiring* extensions; being able to *install* extensions is a much harder job,
but that's being worked on now.
I would need an extremely persuasive argument to pay any attention at all to an incompatible
alternative.
