Find The Right Class For You :The Level One/Beginner/ Introduction
Available Red Mountain and Eagles These classes and courses are aimed primarily at beginner belly dancers and those who want to work on their core skills. It was developed out of the desire to provide well structured classes focused on the most important skills, while still being fun, exciting and achievable. After 30 years of teaching beginners, Sara has evolved a course that is suitable for all those who want to learn the core skills of belly dance without getting bored by repetition or disheartened by over ambition. After a good warm up each lesson should start out fairly easy, with a new move, which is new to everyone in the room. The second move will be slightly harder. It will be a reminder or an adaptation of a move we all worked on last week. Perhaps we will layer on arms, traveling or styling. By leaving it a week between learning the basic move and adding to it, you have time to practice and fully understand how your body moves before trying to layer. Beginner classes are also essential for any dancer who wants to move on to the advanced level or to become a professional dancer, or a dance teacher. The core moves need to be regularly re-visited in order to improve over all technique and to perfect more complex moves.. Level Two Classes/ Improvers /Intermediate (Available at Eagles and Red Mountain) These classes are open to anyone who has attended 15 to 20 beginner classes - either with Sara or another teacher. You are welcome to continue with a level one while also attending a level two if you feel your technique could be improved, or you are unsure which class would suit you best. Level two classes focus on developing each dancer's individual style and skill set. We will continue to focus on a topic each semester, but you will be asked to add your own personal interpretations. Most classes will include some choreography once a year, be that for whole numbers or shorter combinations. In addition to choreography, you will be encouraged to increase your improvisation skills and confidence. Level Three / Advanced/ Performer/Troupe (Available at Eagles - Invitation only) This class is aimed at dancers who are confident in their belly dance skills of improvisation, can pick up a choreography easily, and are ready to perform, or already perform. They need peer support and encouragement, to continue to work on their skills and to find enjoyment in training. They take classes with multiple teachers, attend workshops and have a structured practice routine. Members of this class will have the opportunity to perform as part of Sara's troupe, but are also performing or looking to perform as soloists. While choreography plays a major role in this class, they are used as a tool to encourage performance skills, self grown, peer support and self reflection. Level Four / Professional Plus / Competition (Available at Eagles - One Year plus of Troupe) Competition isnt for everyone, but if its for you, this is your class. We will spend a full 12 months on perfecting 6 minutes of choreography. You will be expected to make a serious financial, physical and emotional commitment to the process, including travelling for competition, costume and outside practice. The process starts in July each year. |
