Can Radeon RX 9070 work DP-HDMI 4K LG TV OLED 120hz in Gnome Wayland?

I recently finally have an AMD card, 9070. It has 2 Display Ports and 1 HDMI. In Windows, it can drive the LG TV OLED at 4k, 120hz, 10-bit color, HDR. In Gnome Wayland I do not have that. I tried "video=DP-3:3840x2160@120 amdgpu.dcfeaturemask=0x22" and this does successfully create a 120hz option but it's no signal.

I can hook the TV up directly HDMI-HDMI or HDMI-DP thru CableMatters adapter. I figured I'd have better luck with the adapter but neither works in Linux.

Re: Can Radeon RX 9070 work DP-HDMI 4K LG TV OLED 120hz in Gnome Wayland?

That resolution requires HDMI FRL support, which is blocked for amd opensource drivers on linux by the owners of hdmi .

A DP 2 HDMI adapter is probably your only choice.

Disliking systemd intensely, but not satisfied with alternatives so focusing on taming systemd.

You said you have a CableMatters DP 2 HDMI adapter. Does this support the full refresh rate and resolution in windows?

Re: Can Radeon RX 9070 work DP-HDMI 4K LG TV OLED 120hz in Gnome Wayland?

Sooo YES, the DP-HDMI works in Windows, but not Linux. It seems this is related to it not advertising DSC support despite there being enough bandwidth, I tried updating the cablematters firmware.  I also tried booting to windows to export the edid, but it exported as HDMI 2.0 with only 60hz despite Windows offering 120hz that drives it fine thru the adapter (tho it looks kind of lighter/brighter).

Note that after updating the firmware, the CableMatters reports "amdgpu 0000:03:00.0: [drm] DP-HDMI FRL PCON supported" however later it claims "[drm] pre_validate_dsc:1667 MST_DSC dsc precompute is not needed"

So it seems I could patch the kernel to always do dsc but there must be a better way to fix this?

Or I guess wait for 7.2 and chuck the adapter because native HDMI will work?

THAT

just wait - the kernel cycle is usually about 6 weeks or so - with 7.1 soon 7.2 can be expected about in july
just be patient
