What happens when an endurance athlete from a warm-weather country decides to chase a winter Olympic dream?
In this episode of Zone2Speak, I’m joined by José Cabeça, a Portuguese athlete who began his career in cycling and triathlon before making a bold and unconventional switch to cross-country skiing, a sport with almost no infrastructure in Portugal.
Despite starting skiing later than most, José went on to represent Portugal at the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing, becoming the country’s best-placed cross-country skier to date. Along the way, he’s trained without snow at home, relied on rollerskiing and overseas camps, and recently secured another Olympic quota spot for Portugal heading toward Milan-Cortina 2026.
This is a story about endurance beyond borders and what’s possible when commitment outweighs circumstance.

In this episode of Zone2Speak, I sit down with Tegan Phillips, a cyclist and comedy creator who has turned bike fails, awkward moments, and the beautiful chaos of cycling into laugh out loud storytelling. From performing cycling stunts and sketches, to creating cycling merch, Tegan has carved out a space where humor and riding collide in the best possible way.
But her journey doesn’t stop at comedy. Tegan has found herself in some wildly unexpected places, from riding in the pro car at Tour de France Femmes, to sharing the road with Tadej Pogačar in Slovenia, experiences most cyclists only dream about. 
We also dive into her creative process, how she chooses locations for her adventures, her growing presence in the cycling world, her artwork and illustrations, and why humor might be one of the most powerful tools for making cycling more inclusive.
This episode is a reminder that cycling doesn’t always have to be serious to be meaningful, sometimes the best rides come with laughter, creativity, and a willingness to laugh at yourself.
