Licensing policy
Use of YourKit Java Profiler is governed by the end-user license agreement. Please feel free to contact sales with any questions regarding the licensing terms.
The license allows you to run the purchased version of YourKit Java Profiler on any supported platform according to the support tier. For example, a license with the basic support tier allows run profiler on Linux, macOS and Windows.
The license allows you to enable profiling in any number of Java applications simultaneously, i.e. run them with the profiler agent.
The license is non-transferable. A registered user is not allowed to transfer the license to other users.

A personal license is issued to individuals and cannot be granted to legal entities or purchased by legal entities on behalf of employees. This license permits commercial use and allows for up to 3 installations of the profiler on different computers simultaneously. Q: Can my company purchase the personal license for me?
A: No. The personal license should be purchased using your own funds.
Personal licenses are not available to companies in any way or form and can't be refunded by employers.
Q: Does the personal license allow using all the product features?
A: Yes. You get a fully functional version.

A: Yes.

Seat license
Unlike a floating license, which counts running profiler instances, a seat license counts installed copies. Each seat license allows the installation of one profiler copy, which may be used by one user at a time.

Floating license
Unlike a seat license, which counts installed profiler copies, a floating license counts running profiler instances. A floating license allows you to install as many copies as you like, but the number of concurrent users (i.e., instances running at the same time) must not exceed the licensed volume.

Floating license server
Floating licenses are managed by the license server. By default, YourKit offers a cloud-based license server, which requires zero configuration and no maintenance efforts. Cloud-based floating license server is available for no additional cost during the period that the support contract is active. There is also an option to host the license server on-premises in your local network. The license server supports two operation modes:
Automatic license management. The default mode when a license is allocated when a user starts the profiler, and is automatically released when the profiler exits. In case of an abnormal profiler termination or network connectivity problems the license is released automatically after a certain time period and will become available to other users.
The automatic mode requires a network connection to the license server while working with the profiler.
License locking. A user may explicitly lock a license to his/her machine. The license will not be available to other users until the owner or the license administrator explicitly unlocks it.
While the license is locked, a network connection to the license server is not required to work with the profiler.
If you have several floating licenses, you may lock only some of them, on demand, e.g. when your team member has to work in a restricted network environment while traveling or at a customer site, while allowing the automatic management for others.

Academic license
Academic license is granted to accredited academic institution: public or private school, vocational school, correspondence school, junior college, university, scientific or technical institution. Academic license does not allow commercial use.
The installed copies of the software can be used only by students, faculty or staff of the academic institution to which the license was granted.

Each seat license allows the installation of one profiler copy, which may be used by one user at a time.

Open source license
The license is granted to developers of non-commercial Open Source projects, with an established and active community. The license is free. However, we ask you to add a reference to YourKit website on the web pages of your Open Source project.

Support renewal and upgrade policy
The active support contract allows access at no additional cost to all bug-fix updates and all major versions released within the support period.
The renewal discount is 40% if the renewal is purchased within the first year after the end of the support contract, 30% within the second year, and 20% if later. The discount amount is subject to change in the future.
Upgrade to version 2025.9
Upgrade to version 2025.9 is free if you have an active subscription, or if the support contact for your perpetual license has expired after September 30, 2025. If you qualify for the free upgrade, use your existing license key with the new version.
If your support contract expired on or before September 30, 2025, you are eligible for renewal discount.
