Crime Control Strategies Division

The Yonkers Police Crime Control Strategies Unit is at the forefront of precision policing, employing cutting-edge technology and data analysis techniques to target emerging crime patterns and enhance public safety in the city of Yonkers. This specialized unit is dedicated to staying ahead of criminals by leveraging data-driven insights and innovative strategies.

At the heart of the unit's operations is a strong emphasis on precision policing. By utilizing sophisticated data analysis tools and predictive modeling, they identify and target specific crime patterns and hotspots with a high degree of accuracy. This approach allows them to allocate and direct Yonkers Police resources strategically and effectively, maximizing their impact on crime reduction.

With a commitment to leveraging technology, the unit employs a range of tools such as safety cameras, license plate recognition systems, and live incident mapping to enhance the Department's situational awareness and responsiveness. These technological advancements enable officers to monitor high-crime areas in real time, gather crucial evidence, and swiftly respond to incidents, improving their ability to prevent and solve crimes.

Crime Analysis Section

Police crime analysts play a critical role in law enforcement by collecting and analyzing data related to criminal activity. They identify patterns, trends, and correlations to understand crime, create visual representations through mapping, and provide insights for strategic planning and resource allocation. They support investigations, collaborate with other agencies, produce reports and presentations, and engage with the community. Their work helps law enforcement agencies make informed decisions, implement effective crime prevention strategies, and enhance public safety.

Domestic Violence Unit (DVU)

Created in April of 2025, our Domestic Violence Unit, or DVU, prioritizes the safety and well-being of those impacted by intimate partner violence through a victim-centered approach. This means that at every step, the focus remains on the survivor, ensuring their voices are heard, their needs are met, and they are connected with the crucial support services and resources available to them.

Field Intelligence Officers

Police Field Intelligence Officers (FIOs) are specialized law enforcement professionals who gather and analyze intelligence to support operational efforts. They collect information through interviews, surveillance, and source development, analyzing data to identify patterns and trends. FIOs provide intelligence support to patrol officers and investigators, collaborate with external agencies, produce reports, and engage with the community. Their work helps in crime prevention, apprehension of criminals, and overall community safety.

AWARE Crime Control Center

The Yonkers Police AWARE Crime Control Center is a technology-enhanced room that fuses real-time video from the City's network of safety cameras with other critical data and geospatial mapping. The AWARE center enables Yonkers Police officers to respond more efficiently to everyday events and emergencies. The Department has partnered with Motorola Solutions, a global leader in public safety and enterprise security technology, to modernize its existing public safety infrastructure and integrate new and existing technology systems.

The AWARE center gives First Responders, from 911 dispatchers to command staff, a single, consolidated view of an incident as it unfolds. It addresses common challenges presented by siloed data and disconnected back-end systems that can hinder emergency response. The following now or will feed information into the AWARE center:

  • Body-worn camera system, which captures critical evidence and increases transparency
  • Computer-aided dispatch, incident awareness and mapping, field reporting and evidence management software, which enables effective workflow management from the initial 911 call to case closure
  • The CityProtect portal, which allows community members to submit anonymous tips, view crime mapping and create non-emergency online reports
  • License plate readers, which help identify stolen vehicles or those associated with criminal activity
  • Yonkers' network of safety cameras, which help identify unusual activity as it unfolds
  • Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), which are part of the Yonkers Police drone-as-first-responder pilot (DFR) program, providing real-time eyes on the scene of a 911 call before officers arrive
