The issue I have with any alternative file manager, is trust. How do I know it is not syphoning off files? Free is never free there is always a catch
A file manager is the core of the OS. Microschoft should bloody well fix it up, and ensure it is not also the windows manager. That has been a gripe since 1998. And Microsoft should fix up with settings that you can hide all those useless cluttering views like musics documents, video blah blah blah, and rename home back to quick access. Plus have the context menu with words and not icons.
But maybe I have to give up 30 years of fighting and wishing and buy TotalCommander . Or go to Linux, only reason I can't is cause there is nothing as powerful as Excel
Plus 5 days of your time to go through the he'll of setting it all up again. So let's say M$ should pay each of us 15k. And another 250k for ptsd suffered at the hands of their piss poor quality software
Well said. And don't get me started on M$ co pilot. Not even an AI, it's very bad, just a scraping tool of all our IP. Nah I'm done, no more mr M$ till you fix the file manager, the settings, and the speed
George seems to me you don't use the OS. Win 11 is severely broken the core being the file manager is beyond useless. It is much slower, network discovery is still broken, and the control panel is still not fully replaced. I hate the rounded corners and all that they did is change the icons the glitz. But not even consistently. And people have to learn where they have hidden the stuff we know. It's pathetic. And wasteful, the machines of 10 years ago are more than fast enough. Just install Ubuntu and you'll see it fly. After 45 years of Microsoft piss poor quality I have had it
Windows Explorer is NOT fine, it is severely broken. It is dog slow, it loses files, its networking is still pathetic, search doesn't work, the tree is garbage as it presents views instead of what is on the disk. I daily scream at it. This why people don't move to windows 11, windows 10 was better. Junior needs to re write it.
Why? SqL is much harder. Excel is hugely functional and it's UI makes it easy to display. If you want SQL use data queries / power queries. Accessible from within Excel of course.
Your example of LET doesn't solve anything. Lambda functions do. Pity that the lambda funtion is under range name. Such a kludge. The result is that Lambdas only have one line to enter. It should be multi-line for readability.
Xlookup? No thanks, slower than index(match())
Co pilot ? Get a life chatGPT is much better, especially at VBA and Lambdas.
The easy option is to make sharing work like Google does. The other thing is 100% compatibility with VBA, and ensuring that VBA is not crackable like it is in Microsoft. Plus add powerQuery. Then I can move
VBA, Power Query or Power Pivot, and dynamic arrays are exactly why I can't move.
followed that link, but disagree with your observation of sharing is better. Sharing in excel is severely broken. Try share in SharePoint. Excel becomes a dog. VbA etc doesn't work. You continuously get collisions. If you need to share Google sheets is vastly superior.
Alsoyou say office is robust. Yes under Windows 10, **NO** under windows 11. It regularly crashes. I regularly lose files, they vanish without trace. Chddsk, scansfc and dsdm say all is fine
VBA, Power Query or Power Pivot, and dynamic arrays are exactly why I can't move. But your observation of sharing is dead wrong. Try share in SharePoint. Excel becomes a dog. VbA etc doesn't work. You continuously get collisions. If you need to share Google sheets is vastly superior
Exactly. This is such basic functionality, that has been around for 40 years, and longer if you go to 123 or vzcalc. But no, let's skimp over that and first develop our new fandangled baked Jupiter (note droid corrects the spelling of that, as junior cant spell)
Sigh, why don't you just learn VBA??? It is such an elegant Oo language, which gives you full access to all excel function and data objects. It is fast as if you know what you're doing. And if you dint know yet, the docs section on the Microsoft site now is almost complete, and chatGPT is incredibly good as it has absorbed all of stackoverflow.
No need for yet an other aberration of a language. I started programming at uni in 1978, and what have all these language wars brought us? Nothing. Only a drop in productivity. Just learn what works
My biggest worry is: will official sites, work in a browser other than chrome. Most govt departments and banks only test in chrome. Firefox often is unusable. Same for edge
Instead of this, can't these juniors not bloody well fix what is broken ie a lot of win 11. It is still a beta version it is so crud. Fix the file manager, fix settings add settings so people can configure without having to resort to the regedit. Get rid of that stupid co pilot thing it is not part of an OS. Split the windows manager from the file manager. Make sure it is not slow as a dog to start, which it is.
Man I'm so over win 11. No way will I upgrade my 3 other machines

I replaced the Windows File Explorer with this free, modern alternative

People really don't want Windows 11 on their PCs, says Dell
DoS 3.22, that's 1985 or so, so 40 years of support

Good point. Support? Non existent, a black hole called AI that does nothing.

Windows File Explorer is fine, actually, and these 6 PowerToys add-ons make it even better

You are using Excel wrong if you haven’t tried these functions

I'm not upgrading to Windows 11, but I'm not tolerating Linux either
No one here talks about security. What do you use as a security suite? ESET?
LibreOffice accuses Microsoft's "artificially complex" Office XML format of being a "lock-in strategy"
Can it do VBA , powerQuery, Pivot tables, and dynamic arrays?

Microsoft is deprecating Publisher, so here's 5 tools I could replace it with
There is nothing in publisher you can't do with MsWord. No need for anything but word. Just learn how to use it properly. It's called styles.
I ditched Chrome and Firefox for this snappy open-source browser, and it exceeded expectations
My biggest worry is: will official sites, work in a browser other than chrome. Most govt departments and banks only test in chrome. Firefox often is unusable. Same for edge
Microsoft is getting rid of the iconic Blue Screen of Death, and its replacement is a lot more boring

Here are all the handy new Excel features Microsoft released in June 2025
Not a good practice as you need to use the mouse rather than the keyboard
