In 2024, WIPO continued its commitment to strengthening global IP capabilities through a series of training and capacity-building initiatives in IP analytics. These activities aimed to equip IP offices, policymakers, researchers, and businesses with the skills and knowledge necessary to harness patent data for strategic decision-making and innovation.

IP analytics plays a crucial role in understanding technological trends, fostering research and development, and supporting evidence-based policymaking. Through tailored training programs, WIPO helps stakeholders worldwide enhance their proficiency in patent analysis, promoting informed innovation strategies and IP management practices.
As part of these efforts, WIPO conducted several key training events across different regions in 2024:
- January 2024: WIPO partnered with the Companies and Intellectual Property Commission (CIPC) in Pretoria, South Africa, to provide a specialized “Training seminar on Patent Analytics” for CIPC examiners, to support them in leveraging patent data for economic and technological development.
- February 2024: A “Training Seminar on Patent Analytics for Technology and Innovation Support Centers (TISCs) in Latin America”, was held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, with participants from Brazil, Chile and Peru, strengthening regional capacity to use patent information in research and innovation.
- June 2024: WIPO organized a “Primer to Patent Analytics for ASEAN IP Offices” in Singapore, enhancing the analytical skills of IP professionals in the region.
- June 2024: Patent analytics sessions were integrated into the WIPO Academy “WIPO-RGNIIPM Advanced Training Course on General Patent Search and Examination for Asia” in New Delhi, India, providing examiners and IP professionals from India, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka with deeper insights into IP data analysis.
- October 2024: WIPO hosted the “Technology and Innovation Support Center (TISC) Regional Meeting for the Arab Region” online, focusing on patent analytics and its applications in supporting innovation ecosystems across Arab countries.
- November 2024: As part of Thailand’s Innovation Policy Week 2024, WIPO held a “Seminar on IP Analytics and Innovation in the ASEAN Region” in Bangkok, Thailand, showcasing best practices and case studies on leveraging patent data for regional economic growth.
