Daleville Town Center growing; new grocery store proposed
ROANOKE, Va. (WDBJ) - The Daleville Town Center is booming, bringing new places to live, eat, work, and shop all in one area.
“Apartments along with a Dairy Queen and then several other restaurants,” said Town Center Tap House Employee, Jace Lisle.
It’s part of Botetourt County’s long-term goal: a walkable, one-stop shop community where people can easily access everyday needs.
“I can just go over to the bank, I can go to the Town Center Tap House,” said Daleville Town Center Apartments Resident, Marissa Kopera.
Kopera moved into the Daleville Town Center apartments just a month ago.
" I love going to the concerts, the pool. I’ve been pretty much walking everywhere since I moved in. That’s honestly the reason I moved here instead of downtown," said Kopera.
And for businesses that have been located at the Town Center for a while, the added developments are already paying off. Town Center Tap House has been serving customers for 13 years. Lisle said he watched the area grow.
“I’ve been coming here for as long as I can remember, and when I was little, obviously, there was nowhere near as much as there is now. It’s been wild to see everything popping up. All the construction,” said Lisle.
County discussion about building up the Daleville Town Center began in 2005. Since then, it’s expanded to include amenities like the YMCA, medical and dental offices, restaurants, and apartments with more townhomes still going up.
“I think it makes it a way more friendly environment, honestly. I feel like when there’s a lot more to do, you’re able to interact with a lot more people in positive ways. And that just, I mean, it helps everything,” said Lisle.
Botetourt County tells WDBJ7 its nearing the end of completing all phases of the county’s Comprehensive Plan. They said there’s still some undeveloped land.
Developer Fralin and Waldron Incorporated is seeking to add a new 50-thousand square-foot, full-service grocery store with a drive-thru pharmacy. It would be placed on Glebe Road, adjacent to the Town Center.
“People can walk and get their groceries, and I think a lot of those residents who live on that side of the residential lots are expecting it.”
With that proposal comes possible road improvements, such as additional traffic lights and turning lanes.
Another business is on the way. A Wawa is currently under construction and is expected to be completed by the end of this year.
