Person injured by glass fragments from bullet fired into car

PITTSYLVANIA COUNTY, Va. (WDBJ) - A person was injured by glass fragments from a bullet fired into in a car at a graduation party Sunday, June 7, according to the Pittsylvania County Sheriff’s Office.

The incident occurred on the 600 block of Millstream Drive in the Chatham area.

Dispatch received a call at around 1:30 a.m. that a person had been shot in the back and was en route to the emergency room in Gretna, according to deputies.

Deputies say it was later determined at the ER that the individual did not suffer a gunshot wound but was injured from glass fragments from a bullet fired into the car the individual was occupying.

Numerous shots were fired, but investigators have not determined the cause of the shooting, according to deputies. Deputies say multiple bullet casings were collected at the scene.

No other injuries were reported, and no arrests have been made, according to deputies.
