Global Compact Local Networks in Asia Convene Regional Meeting

(Seoul, 21 November 2011) – Global Compact Local Networks from Asia gathered in Seoul, South Korea on 21 November for a Regional Meeting, which was hosted by the Global Compact Local Network Korea.

The meeting was attended by representatives from China, India, Indonesia, Republic of Korea, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Vietnam. The secretariat of the Principles for Social Investment (PSI) and a delegation from the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) also participated in the meeting.

During the meeting, each Local Network shared their activities and challenges they face through the day-to-day operations of the networks. The Principles for Social Investment was introduced and the Local Networks learned about roles and opportunities related to PSI. The Global Compact Office provided the Local Networks with an update on preparations for Rio+20 including the concept of mobilizing networks as sustainability hubs, as well as guidelines for Collective Action and Policy Dialogue.

Participants were strongly encouraged to engage in Rio+20 and the Global Compact’s Corporate Sustainability Forum there, and developed ideas for how to become involved.
