WHAT THE F*CK IS WRONG WITH ME
: AND WHAT DO I DO ABOUT IT?
M. TORKINGTON'S NEW SELF-THERAPY HANDBOOK
In her groundbreaking book, Therapist and Social Worker Melanie Torkington delves into the complexities of the human psyche, offering a simple framework for understanding its functioning during life's perplexing ups and downs. Drawing on the concept of the Window of Tolerance, Torkington guides readers on a journey of self-discovery, helping them understand their emotional triggers and develop resilience in the face of adversity. With empathy and tongue-in-cheek relatability, 'What the F*ck Is Wrong with Me?' is a must-read for anyone seeking to understand themselves and others better. Whether you're feeling like you're on the brink of meltdown or just trying to navigate life's daily dramas, this book will empower you to find your 'Window' and stay there—because let's face it, we all need a little help tolerating life's WTF moments! |
I am so excited to be launching the release of my first book!
Even if you're thinking, 'the AUDACITY of her calling it "What the F*ck is Wrong with Me?"'!
My hope is that it speaks to you, everyday people, the people that need it the most and set's the scene, inviting a light-hearted self-reflection, to people who might not otherwise ever cross the threshold to a therapist's office.
"What the F*ck is Wrong with Me?" was created to bridge that gap and make complex psychological theories , approachable, relatable and useable to you at home. It utilises the 'Window of Tolerance' to provide a simple visual concept to understand yourself and others better, with clear steps and practical exercises to both assess and address the stressors in your life. This book draws on the raw, truthful part of us, where we can give ourselves permission to 'feel', be fallible... and human. It empowers us to accept ourselves with forgiveness and love, shining this into the dark corners of our being, that we may previously have feared to peek.
One of my biggest challenges has been not having enough time to reach all the people who need me. This demand has become even more difficult to meet, since having two babies in the last 4 years, at times, maxing out my own 'Window of Tolerance'. By working away at this project, rather than just more hours in 1-on-1 sessions, I hope that some of the foundational approaches I use with my clients, are now available to people, no matter where they are, who they are and without needing a slice of Mel in person. Turning the limited reach, into the infinite. Empowering you to take the first step towards your own inner therapist. Didn't know you had one? This will help you find them.
It is such a blessing and privilege to be able to offer this unique, confronting, albeit 'cheeky' Self-Therapy Handbook. I hope you feel a sense of connection through the pages, experience the lightness of laughter (even when it's at yourself), and are able to shine light and understanding on your path, healing past pitfalls and illuminating the steps into the future.
Much love and gratitude,
Mel

Melanie Torkington BSW, EFT, EMDR
Meet your TherapistHi, I'm Mel, a registered clinical Social Worker and a qualified EFT and EMDR practitioner. I have worked therapeutically with people for over 15 years in a variety of roles in the Wellbeing and Social Service sectors. I am excited to make top quality, therapeutic services available to the general public and provide other professionals with supervision and consultation through my private practice.
I recently created a Self-Therapy Handbook "What the F*ck is Wrong with Me?" to make some of my favourite, fundamental, therapeutic approaches, available to anyone, anywhere. |
Mel was a fantastic support for our family. She had the perfect rapport with my transgender daughter and was able to open her up to work through severe trauma using EMDR therapy. We had sessions with just her and Mel as well as sessions involving myself. She creates such a safe and inviting space to process and the way she was able to keep things fun and loving whilst talking about some pretty heavy stuff was incredible." |
