According to the India Book Market Report (2016), India is the sixth largest publisher in the world overall, and the second largest publisher in the world for English-language books. Almost 250 books are published per day and 55% sales are of English books, 35% of Hindi, and the rest are regional-language books.
Though these statistics look hopeful, the path to getting published isn’t that simple. Having a story to tell is just the beginning. To get published, one needs to write a pitch that drives a publisher to pick up your book proposal among thousands that come in; some say it is helpful or a must to have a literary agent. With influencers getting published, some also say it helps to have an audience base that could positively impact sales. With all of this and much more to figure out, the path to seeing your name on a book cover can feel daunting.
To solve your doubts, The Hindu is organising a webinar titled, ‘How to get your book published?’, on October 11, 2025. Register now for free to ask questions and interact with the panellists. The three best questions will receive a free online subscription to The Hindu.
