The Guardian and the Observer win six Press Awards

This article is more than 2 years old

The Guardian and the Observer has won six Press Awards, including an excellence in diversity award, at a ceremony held in London last night (Thursday 18 April).

The Press Awards celebrate outstanding talent from across the UK’s press and champion the importance of journalism to society, with the awards open to all news media publishers distributing nationally in the UK.

Cotton Capital won the diversity award for reporting on links between the Scott Trust founder and transatlantic slavery. The judges called the Cotton Capital series a “breathtakingly honest mea culpa” and added that it was “a hugely thoughtful and comprehensive project that provides a groundbreaking example of how an organisation addresses historical links to slavery”.

David Conn won news reporter of the year, Anna Isaac won business and finance journalist of the year and Tom Jenkins won the sports photographer of the year award for the Guardian. Chris Riddell was named cartoonist of the year and Laura Cumming won critic of the year for the Observer.

Jay Rayner was highly commended in the critic of the year category, while Anna Bawden and David Batty were both highly commended for their investigation into sexual harassment in the NHS.
