TACC Community Survey: Life Sciences Career Awareness

The American City Coalition (TACC) is a Roxbury-based nonprofit focused on developing pathways that connect Black and brown residents of Boston to careers in the life sciences/biotech industry. This survey is an opportunity for you to honestly tell us how the industry is doing and what could be done better.

What are the life sciences? A branch of science that deals with living organisms (like plants, animals, insects, and tiny cells). It also deals with how those living organisms work and live (their life processes). Life sciences include biology, medicine, agriculture, biotechnology, and sometimes the study of people and societies.

What is biotechnology? Biotech uses living organisms to develop or create different products (e.g., insulin, COVID vaccine, enzymes in laundry detergent) with the aim of improving people’s quality of life.

Why does it matter? In Massachusetts, there are over 1,000 life sciences/biotech companies and over 140,000 jobs. Between 2008 and 2020, employment in the life sciences industry grew by 55%. Looking forward, Massachusetts life sciences jobs are projected to increase by 32% or nearly 38,000 net new jobs by 2033.

Please respond by July 15. Your responses to this survey will be anonymous. Nothing you say in this survey will affect your ability to participate in The American City Coalition or our partners’ services in any way. Thank you for your time and your feedback!
