NEW COACH: Juergen Kilnsmann was hired by the U.S. Soccer Federation on July 29, 2011, to replace former coach Bob Bradley. Klinsmann’s objective was to shape the vision of soccer in the United States and to get the #USMNT to qualify for the 2014 World Cup. (Photo: Uwe Lein, AP)
(March 22, 2013) QUALIFIERS -- NEITHER SNOW, NOR SLEET: Entrance to the World Cup wasn’t guaranteed. First, the U.S. soccer team had to make it through a series of qualifying games. One of the USA’s most notable wins in World Cup qualifying was the 1-0 win against Costa Rica in a Colorado snow storm. Conditions in the game got so bad that the referee halted the game in the 55th minute. When the game resumed, the U.S. secured a key win. (Photo: Byron Hetzler, USA TODAY Sports)
(September 10, 2013) WORLD CUP BOUND! The U.S. Men’s National Team qualified for the 2014 World Cup with a resounding 2-0 win over its biggest rival, Mexico, in front of a sold-out crowd in Columbus, Ohio. A pair of second-half goals and a draw in the Honduras-Panama match ensured that the USA would be in the world’s greatest soccer tournament. (Photo: David Richard, USA TODAY Sports)
