Who am I? I'm a creative from Pretoria, South Africa. I draw, paint and make zines. Making zines reminds me of being a kid again, making my own little books and sharing those with friends. I've been making and sharing my zines and even did a zine-making workshop for The International Public Arts Festival in Cape Town, South Africa. Why a zine subscription? The problem is that South Africa is pretty small, there are no zine fairs. I would love to collect more zines, but getting zines shipped internationally to South Africa also has its challenges. I want a way to share my zines, the zines I make with others and hopefully collect zines at the same time. Physical Zines in a Digital Age It started with me sharing my zines digitally with a small list of email subscribers. A digital file of my zine that you can print at home on an A4 piece of paper, or you can print it at your local print shop. Print as many as you like, print them all, print only one, print some to give away. Hell, print and sell them at your local zine fair. As long as we can help each other make more zines, that's what I want the Zine Subscription to do. And that's why I am on Patreon. I realize that before any other zine makers are willing to include their work in the subscription I will have to put my zines where my mouth is. Initially, I will be giving all subscribers access to all of my own zines. I'm not exactly sure how I'm going to involve other zine creators and their zines, but as soon as I do we will start sharing those with subscribers too. Why the 8-page zine from a single-page format? It's my favourite zine format. It's easy enough that anyone can do it. Extremely easy to print multiple copies, as all you need is a photocopier. This makes it easy to turn into a digital file that subscribers can print and fold into their physical copy of the zine.
