Some more on Jake Nawrot

I will have a full write-up on KSR+ tonight with more on Nawrot's play style and how he could fit at Kentucky. But this is what you need to know now. ***Multiple outlets have Jake Nawrot as a top-100 national prospect. Major recruiting win for Will Stein and his staff. Elite 11 finalist. He will be in contention for the No. 1 QB in this class. Has a great chance to be a five-star when this is all said and done. ***Nawrot was a late arrival to the national scene. That probably helped Kentucky. He has absolutely blown up over the last 3 months. The Cats entered the party quickly, built a relationship, and rode the wave. It was clear how much they coveted Nawrot. They weren't afraid to play the waiting game and that led to a huge win. Oregon made a big push. Kansas State was a major player. Iowa had the legacy angle. ***We've seen Kentucky make some massive recruiting swings in portal + high school recruiting at QB since the new staff was hired. Many were surprised how serious they were considered during the Sam Leavitt push. The Kenny Minchey flip was a shocker. They again pulled off a surprise in the 2027 high school cycle. They've shown some closing chops and have also shown the ability to build a good board with quality depth of options. They've also shown a good feel on when to play the waiting game or pivot to another option. That matters in recruiting. They simply just know what they are doing and have enhanced the Kentucky brand quickly in the QB scene. Kentucky is a major factor now. That is more than significant. It's massive for the perception of this program and what could happen when the wins arrive. ***Prospects are impressed with Stein's background. Joe Sloan's work with Jayden Daniels is also a huge selling point. They will go as far as the QB takes them. Everything will be built around this position. Kentucky is recruiting a different caliber of player here now. No games have been played yet but this is worth getting excited for. Things can be different when you have a special QB in place. Kentucky is positioning itself to get special QB plays. This can be an odds game some at QB. Not everyone is going to hit, but if you stack good recruiting wins, your odds increase. Kentucky now has a lot of chips to play at the roulette table. These are fun times. Dreams can run wild when you know you will be good at QB.

Dead last in sec in recruiting?

Maybe we can win the A day game to convince some of these recruits to join.

Those two losses occurred to A&M and OU. Keep in mind, 10-2 with the Texas schedule includes wins over Ohio State, at Tennessee, redemption against Florida, Ole Miss, and at LSU.

Ament ?

What is the latest Intel on Ament and has he set an announcement date for anything? Do you think and staff will pay him matching lottery money, if 8 and below draft value ? Seems like we could get pieces around him and be very good next year

Kentucky head coach Mark Pope reached out to UConn center Eric Reibe on Friday, sources tell KSR+. Sources say the talk went well, and Pope was "super classy" when Reibe made the decision to go to UConn, which is "going a long way now."

Just a few notes on a Saturday: — Stokes arrives for his visit tomorrow night. He is taking the visit himself (it isn’t counting as one of the officials….which I am not even sure what the rules are on those now) and will be in Lexington all day Monday. Folks at UK believe they are in a good spot for Stokes but do not know whether he intends to pick the Cats. The Hope is the Monday visit brings clarity to both parties and they have a good idea after what his plan is. He is option 1 for Kentucky and their entire Portal plan is shaped around his decision. They have one set of targets if he comes and a different set if he doesn’t. Monday obviously decides which direction they go in. — Part of the reason you have heard so many names around Kentucky over the last few days is this…they have two sets of targets based on whether they get Stokes. If Stokes comes, they hope to get one more big time player and then a lot of guys to support that base (including some shooters). If he doesn’t, then it’s two more big time players with potentially a different type of skill set (playmaking). I wouldn’t expect a massive big money commitment for Kentucky until after that Monday visit. — The working assumption at this point is that Trent Noah will return….that could change, but all indications are that he is being penciled in as part of the roster with Moreno/Kam/Mason Williams/Potter. If some team came with a massive offer, I guess that could alter the scenario but as of yet, that is the working assumption. I still havent heard about Hawthorne. — I think there has only been one player that has committed to a school that Kentucky had as a first/second choice in one of the two scenarios (Stokes or no Stokes) and that is Dedan Thomas. Otherwise the guys were either backup options or people that wanted to make the decision before the Stokes visit (possibly Byrd). I think Kentucky obviously would have taken Dink Pate but not until after Stokes decision when he became a more realistic possibility 10 days ago. Thats what I am hearing and it is the first relatively solid info I have heard since the Portal started.

The latest on Tyran Stokes (4/11)

Sources tell KSR’s Jack Pilgrim and Jacob Polacheck that Kentucky has picked up momentum in recent weeks with going to great (and creative) lengths to close the gap. At the same time, sources believe there has been a major holdup on the Kansas front, specifically regarding the Jayhawks’ adidas affiliation and ’ status as a Nike athlete, opening the door for the Wildcats. One source, upon learning about Stokes’ Kentucky visit, said that KU “did not want it to get to this point,” in reference to Stokes visiting Lexington again. Sources tell KSR that Kentucky has explored redistributing NIL revenue-sharing funds to sweeten the offer to Stokes. One source close to the recruitment believes Kentucky is positioned well, but no decision has been made and neither side should be totally confident, knowing the unpredictable nature of this recruitment. Sources also indicate that Stokes’ camp has reached out to other schools outside of Kansas and Kentucky to gauge interest, but there has been little traction elsewhere. Oregon has lingered as a potential option if things were to fall through with the Wildcats and Jayhawks, but the Ducks have ground to make up. There was an internal push for a commitment at tonight’s Nike Hoop Summit, but Stokes himself preferred to hold off until closer to the signing period, which starts on Wednesday, April 15. The scheduled visit to Lexington aligns with that temporary patience — but the overwhelming consensus is that the No. 1 recruit and those closest to him do not want this to drag out too much longer. Stokes was prepared to commit to Kentucky back in the fall, sources tell KSR, but pivoted as attention picked up and announcement dates were spoken into existence rather than coming from the 18-year-old himself, on his own time. That allowed Kansas not only to jump into the mix but also to take the lead and emerge as the likely choice at one point, but Pope never went away. Now, it’s best described as a toss-up with a decision on the horizon, but Kentucky potentially getting the last meeting before Stokes is ready to call his shot.

Sources tell BOL that is expected on campus today for his visit. We mentioned this was likely yesterday in our intel piece. ***We have not confirmed anyone else yet, but we do know the UA staff is working on them. Also, it is important to remember that not all portal targets will take visits. A few of his college highlights:

Friday note on Tahaad Pettiford

I’m told Pettiford is expected to let Auburn know something today. I don’t know when that will be, but hopefully we’ll have a final answer by today or tonight. The general vibe has been cautiously optimistic. Nothing definitive either way from anyone that would know. 7 pm update: Auburn hasn’t heard from Pettiford or his camp. I don’t know what that means at this point. I don’t think anyone does.

Not counting Stokes. I see a lot of names in the portal but who is THE guy? The guy that we go to in late game situations when we need a bucket.
