Comedian, actor Vir Das landed in Mumbai and penned down his thoughts into a humorous song about the city's worsening air quality. He took to his Instagram account and posted a video, highlighting the problems faced by many in Mumbai every day due to the poor air quality index.
Strumming a ukulele, Vir Das began his song, which is composed, written and sung by him. Starting off with a relatable punchline for Mumbaikars who might be struggling to breathe amid the smog, he sang, "Woke up this morning and I took a little breath. God showed up because he thought that I was dead. I was like, hang on, bro, it's because of the smoke. It's just life inside of a desi Metro! AQI!"
He added, "**** m life. And I really try to keep the spirit of Mumbai…Smoke is wrong, we can't see eye to eye/ And my throat is dry/Bandra-Worli sea link I can't see either side... Builders building every day. Do we need 9000 BHKs?"
“If your kids are locked in a room, you hear bulldozers boom! Dadaji is like, let me die beta, it's not too soon. Mere lungs hai bund (My lungs are closed), it's no fun. If your customers are dead, who will buy your flat? AQI, AQI, let me die. This smoke is making me choke. Why can't we see eye to eye? AQI,” he sang further, wrapping up coughing.
The caption of his post read: “A.Q.I.YAI YAIII! Woke up, took a breath, jammed this."

Vir Das' post comes amid the rising pollution levels in Mumbai. The city is experiencing another week of hazy skies and alarming AQI levels. On Friday morning, the Central Pollution Control Board recorded Bandra Reclamation at 214 and Bandra Kurla Complex at 222, both falling under the 'poor' category, reported news agency ANI.
Other areas of the city, including Borivali East (150) and Chembur (132), also reported compromised air quality.
Recently, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) issued more than 50 stop-work notices to construction sites across the city for not following guidelines that include the mandatory installation of AQI sensors and water sprinklers, among other measures, to control dust pollution.
Before Mumbai, several Bollywood celebrities raised concerns about Delhi's poor AQI level.
