LinkedIn aims to help members get discovered for professional opportunities both on and off the platform. For example, public profiles may appear in search tool results. Additionally, users of certain email or other communication or networking services may see "mini" profiles of members they interact with.
If you prefer to limit the visibility of your profile information outside of LinkedIn, there are two settings that enable you to do that.
This setting controls which sections of your LinkedIn public profile are eligible for display to people who are not signed in to LinkedIn, or who can view your public profile via search tools such as Google or Bing. Learn how to hide or show your public profile.
Through our partnerships and developer program, we enable certain affiliates, partners, customers, and other permitted developers to display to their users information from the profiles of members they meet, write to or about, manage or consider for talent or other opportunities, take social actions (e.g. follow their company), etc. Some examples include email integrations, social media aggregators (e.g. tools for company brand administrators to consolidate interactions with followers across social media), talent and lead managers.
To manage your Profile discovery and visibility off LinkedIn setting:
- Click the
Me icon at the top of your LinkedIn homepage. - Click Settings & Privacy.
- In the Visibility section, click Profile discovery and visibility off LinkedIn.
- Switch the toggle to On to show information from your profile to users of permitted services. Switch the toggle to Off to opt out of this setting.
Note: Changing the Profile discovery and visibility setting doesn’t limit visibility of your public profile (for example, on search tools), which can be controlled by the public profile setting. It also doesn’t limit the ability for Page owners to export your profile data and individual interactions with their Page, if you permit such access via the Page owners exporting your data setting.
Many of the users of these third-party services are LinkedIn members who opt in to link their LinkedIn account with their account on the other service. Depending on the nature of the specific integration, these users could see up to the same profile information (including connections data) seen while logged in to LinkedIn. This may be more than the public profile of members who haven’t disabled profile visibility and discovery off LinkedIn in their settings.
It is possible that users of external services who are not LinkedIn members or who haven’t linked their accounts can still view public profiles of LinkedIn members who have not opted out through the settings listed above.
