Save the Dates: UA Day Event Celebrations

27 January 2025

The global Internet community is gearing up to celebrate the third annual Universal Acceptance (UA) Day. The main UA Day 2025 event will take center stage on 8 May in Hanoi, Vietnam, kicking off the APAC DNS Forum. It is being organized in collaboration with the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and the ICANN community, including the Universal Acceptance Steering Group (UASG). These events also coincide with the Contracted Parties Summit, which will also be held in Hanoi. Nearly 60 additional UA Day 2025 events will take place from March through the end of May to promote UA adoption, with virtual, in-person, and hybrid participation.

ICANN's collaboration with UNESCO will allow for broader and more diverse outreach efforts and further build on the momentum achieved in the previous two years. UA is vital to enabling a multilingual and inclusive Internet, in accordance with a UNESCO Recommendation on the promotion on multilingualism, where people can engage online using domain names and email addresses that reflect their language, culture, and preferences.

About UA Day

UA ensures that all domain names and email addresses, including those that use new, longer top-level domains and various scripts, are fully recognized and functional across all applications. UA Day is both a celebration of progress and a call to action, helping raise awareness of UA's benefits and providing resources to organizations looking to adopt UA.

The inaugural UA Day in 2023 marked the first time a diverse set of technical and language communities, companies, governments, and Domain Name System (DNS) industry stakeholders mobilized to champion UA on a global scale. Over the past two years, tens of thousands of people in dozens of countries around the world have participated in UA Day events.

UA Day events are open to all relevant organizations and professionals, including ICANN Regional At-Large Organizations, At-Large Structures, Supporting Organizations and Advisory Committees, government officials, international organizations, technology experts, open-source communities, standards bodies, email service providers, software and technology developers, web hosting platforms, academics, DNS industry professionals, and language communities.

About ICANN

ICANN's mission is to help ensure a stable, secure, and unified global Internet. To reach another person on the Internet, you need to type an address – a name or a number – into your computer or other device. That address must be unique so computers know where to find each other. ICANN helps coordinate and support these unique identifiers across the world. ICANN was formed in 1998 as a nonprofit public benefit corporation with a community of participants from all over the world.
