In the quiet after closing time, a lone toy clerk restocks the aisles — boxes of dolls, plushies, and dreams wrapped in cellophane. He hums to himself, unaware that the store's smiling mascot on every tag is watching him back.
Then, the change begins. Fabric spreads across his arms like velvet vines, his skin softening, seams etching along his sides. His body swells and distends, shirt splitting at the seams as stuffing replaces bone. His eyes glaze into glossy buttons, stitched wide with perpetual cheer.
By dawn, the transformation is complete. Where the clerk once knelt, an enormous plush giraffe now sits — bright, motionless, and tagged with a price: $1957.00.
Customers will pass, children will point, and few will guess that the newest store mascot was once human. Yet deep inside the felt and stuffing, something still remembers the sound of a barcode scanner — and the weight of being alive~
