Plate 6 On Altar
Having a collar on and a leash hold by his sister, Sakda followed Majjari closely into the camping compound.
As he walked pass, he could see the lionesses there outlined under fading sunlight. It was at dawn and sunlight was waning, paying the sky clear for upcoming moon light. Scent of newly cooked food and burned wood lingered in the air. Majjari took him straight through the camp. She didn’t greet or talk with anyone she passed. Her manner was ceremonial, even her clothes were ceremonial too; she dressed in laced and braided white garment, most part of the delicate fabric was transparent and could be seen through.
The lionesses see him passed by noticed his arrival. No one said a thing, just stared and let him and Majjari went their way. On the way he saw Nila, he remembered her and so did she. She smiled and waved at them. Majjari nodded as a greeting.
The hill seemed to be larger than when he had watched from afar. They went up the steep stairways. Soon they arrived at the top of it, there was a large plain with prominent stone altar in the middle. A few lionesses were already waiting there.
They went closer to the altar. It was made of marble, a rectangle one, with cracks and flint from place to place. The rim was inlaid with gold and the side was engraved with inscriptions.
“Here come our offering” said one of the priestess.
“Where is Ishaa?” Asked Majjari
“She was preparing the other lions, might be ready in a short time” Answered the priestess.
“Well, let me prepare this lion before we bring him up the altar” said Majjari.
Before the altar, Majjari had every tool she needed on a small wooden table. She groomed him with great care. Blemishes were wiped with wet rags, then his fur was brushed. Every detail refined to be flawlessness. Now his formerly dull rugged fur coat had turned to smooth shining gold.
“Majjari, are you going to kill me?” Sakda asked while she busily brushed his back “No.” She replied “It depends, when blood moon arrive, your live will be free to be taken by any lioness. Any lioness can involves.”
She looked everywhere on his body, making sure she missed no spot “You will be the most perfect lion. The spirit of The White Lion will be pleased and anyone will be delighted having you tonight.”
“I want the one to be you Majjari” Sakda said.
“I can’t” Said Majjari after she finished her last detail. “But you have to trust me Sakda, you have to let this happens” She lean forward “Bow your head down.” She told him and when he did, she kissed him at the forehead “Because I love you.”
“I don’t understand.” Sakda said, shaking his head.
“You will.” Replied Majjari assuredly.
She put the brush down and turned to the other priestesses “He’s finished, what do you think?” Bringing Sakda to full sight and beckoned to him, being proud of her work.
“He’s perfect” Said one lioness “Bring him on, I can’t wait for this!” another one requested.
The altar surface was cleaned for the last time before bringing the offering on. Then Majjari turned to Sakda “Now it’s time, get onto the altar” She said. Sakda was shaking tried to move his legs up the alter but the power seemed to be drained out of him. “I’m scared.” He said. “I know.” Majjari replied and managed to make him sit on it first then move his legs up later.
The marble was cold, but not cold enough to make him shake. It was the fact that his end was near that did. Sakda can’t control his apprehension. In that moment Majjari went onto the altar with him, she hugged him and stroke his head “It’s alright Sakda, I’ll be with you in every moment until it is finished. This will be painful and unpleasant, but you need to endure. I will be with you till the end”
“Don’t leave me Majjari, please don’t” His voice shaking. Tears run down both of his eyes.
“I will not leave you.” She said.
They were hugging each other for some time. She waited for the lion to cooled down. Until she could felt his shaking subsides and his breathing returned to a regular interval. “All is ready.” She said and nodded to the other priestesses. Then a priestess hit a large bronze gong hanging from a wooden support. The sound resonated through the night sky and echoing back from mountain ranges far away. This sound was heard by every lioness down below, heralded the arrival of the sacrificial lion.
Every other activity was stopped. All the lionesses looked up the hill, another gong sound was echoing, shortly followed by a few others. This couldn’t be mistaken; the lion had arrived. The lionesses prepared themselves, cleaning their bodies, removed their clothes, and gradually moved up the hill.
Ishaa was waiting, with her two males who now indulged in their aggravated desires. Hearing the signaling sound, they were ready to move
“The ceremony has began, let’s move” She said “be on guard, cover their head up. They can be enraged and get out of control, especially when they smell any female in heat — I know there is some already are and more will become”
