Welp, I said I'd do it, and by god, I was not kidding! I can't believe it's happened, but here we are!
Meet my new persona from this point forward, Vega the red bluster!
This movie has transformed my life literally overnight, and I couldn't be happier to finally enter this new chapter in my online existence! I'd been toying with the idea of changing personas for a long time, now, but for some reason or another, I just never could. Call it loyalty, call it fear of change, but every attempt I made always fell flat after a very short time.
I'd always had at least one or two friends in my life that were some sort of aquatic creature, though. And, hell, my favorite irl animal for absolutely AGES has been the sea lion. Plus, my most recent attempt at a persona change was just being a larger, differently colored night fury, which very slightly got me into thinking about macro stuff, too..
So when I saw this new movie, it's like all the pieces that had been slowly falling for years, finally all landed, and all at once! The head shape is just familiar enough that it'd be pretty easy for me and my very limited drawing skills to transition to with little adaptation, the personality is everything I ever wanted: silent, foreboding, but understanding, and pure at heart. And then when I saw that thing haul out onto dry land and walk around like a sea lion, AW MY GAH. Plus it's HUGE, which, I wouldn't have said before, but now? YES! I am SO down with being a leviathan class creature!
This persona change also aligns slightly better with the kind of personality I have developed over the years since I first made Fahren. Just like Toothless, I was once young and daring, full of energy, and definitely more like a happy dog, never getting enough attention and just throwing myself at anyone who would give me the time of day. But these days, I'm a lot more chilled out, slow, and I sorta.. prefer the idea of being "rare." Like.. you can sit on the beach and look out over the ocean. You can call and call all you want, but unless I'm ready to make myself known, it's just gonna be futile. I just keep to myself now and generally enjoy my free time to be devoted to myself and my mate. I don't think there's anything wrong with that. ^^
To be fair, if my history is anything to go by, this persona change might also not stand the test of time, but at least for now, I'm really going all in to the best of my ability, and I really feel like this one's different.
A quick note on what's goin' on with the horn there, even though I should probably wait to say this in an official ref sheet, but: the yellow horn is actually crystallized sulphur, zinc, and copper, as my headcanon for this trait is that I spend a lot of time basking at very very deep hydrothermal vents, but since the horn has virtually no nerves in it, I enjoy sticking it directly into the billowing plumes so that it retains a lot of heat, which helps keep me warm at depth. Of course, that means there's a layer of all sorts of minerals that get deposited on the horn, but they only show after I've breached the surface and sleep above the water, allowing the minerals to crystallize and/or oxidize. The vent I happen to frequent the most just so happens to have lots more sulphur than anything else, so the dominant color ends up being yellow. This also means that each time you see me, it may have a completely different pattern. Also, this color change in the horn is a relatively recent occurrence in my life, as, up till now, I never really spent any significant time at the surface until I met my little land dwelling mate, Reverie. Only now that I have a reason to stay surfaced and sleep with my head on the beach with him, is when my horn started changing to this brilliant, sparkling saffron color. It's a perfect happy accident that's a sign to all that I am taken and that my heart belongs all to him. >w<
Just before anybody gets sad, by the way: No, Fahren isn't gone, and I still have plenty of art to do of him and other night dergs, but he will definitely be taking a backseat. Though, there might also be some Fahren-on-Vega art, too, so stay tuned~ Though, with that said, given I'm still incredibly new to drawing red blusters, I have a feeling my art will slow down EVEN more than it already had before, so.. sorry. ^^;
