Interesting. Somewhat charming. Even a bit sad. Good short story, all in all, although it left a bit unfinished aftertaste, at least to me. But I was entertained, the theme you use isn't so spectacular, but I liked the view, showing the performer after the peak of her career. Very interesting. Nice little piece, I enjoyed reading this. Good work.

Thank you for you kind words. Yes it is unfinished, and will likely stay that way, much as a sketch of an arrangement that simply will not work. Not only is it not spectacular, I suppose it is "anti-spectacular," that is, very specifically trying to paint a mythological siren without the broad "mythological" strokes. Not that it works mind you, but I hope there is education in finding what doesn't work. Practice is practice is practice

One way I could see this developing is having the main story be a big flashback. But what would happen? That's the trouble.

It will end up in my pile of "what the hell can i do with this?" because i hate to throw something away (you should see my basement).

If nothing ever develops it occurs to me that she might make a nice side character in Manacle's earth as some sideline mentioned scrap of shattered magic. *shrugs* of course, Manacle, the "quarantine" prompt, etc. are on that pile of stuff I'll develop if i get back to it :P

I most liked the descriptions of her face, "that makeup cannot help". I kind of wondered why, exactly, she looked so, but I suppose it was just the ravages of age...?

well to be perfectly honest, I haven't entirely decided myself :) If I were to develop it further I suppose I would have to decide if if it was because she was old now or if it was that she had always been ugly, except when she sang. I might be inspired to dig a bit more up about the mythology of sirens and the like .... oh who am I kidding, I'd probably just wing it :P

Actually, I like that angle of always being ugly until she sang. :D You could get totally meta-fantasty with something like that!
