Hosted by our script consultant Alizée Musson, join us for an evening of animated conversations, networking, and book signing!
Alizée will be presenting her new book, "The Art of Writing Animation", where she interviewed over 40 animation writers and professionals about their storytelling practice, including the makers of Pixar and Walt Disney's Ratatouille, Inside Out, Brave, Peppa Pig, Wolfwalkers, American Dad!, and Studio Ghibli's The Tale of the Princess Kaguya.
She will be joined by a panel of animation writers and development professionals (see below), who will discuss their careers and how to break into the animated TV industry.

TOM DENNEY
Former Executive Producer Walt Disney EMEA Tom is a creative working in animation with 5+ years experience as a creative executive and executive producer at The Walt Disney Company EMEA across series in production and development. He was executive producer on the recent Disney+ pre-school series Magicampers, part of the creative team on the Annie Award winning anthology Kizazi Moto: Generation Fire and worked on series including Gigantosaurus, The Unstoppable Yellow Yeti and The Doomies. He is currently working on writing and developing his own IP. |
JAMES HUNTRODS
Writer After starting out writing for the theatre, James had his first break in TV via the BAFTA Rocliffe New Comedy Showcase, where one of his sitcom spec was a runner-up. From there, he was hired as a writer of series 4 and 5 of Cartoon Network’s The Amazing World of Gumball, and found that I loved writing in animation! Since then, he's written over 50 episodes of animated TV on shows like Dogs in Space, Chip 'N' Dale: Park LIfe, and recently, Submarine Jim. Over his career, He's written shows for Disney, Netflix, Nickelodeon, Cartoon Network, BBC and more. |
KATIE BARBA
Development Producer A Productions Since joining A Productions in 2023, Katie has been overseeing their original development slate and mapping out ongoing IP strategies and market trends. Katie has extensive experience with early-stage pitch and project development. Previously, Katie spent over five years at Disney EMEA in London where she held various development and production roles. During her time there, she successfully managed the EMEA development slate and provided creative oversight for a range of long-form kids’ series, including the sci-fi anthology Kizazi Moto: Generation Fire and Chip N Dale: Park Life. |

Develop your script from initial idea to a final draft of your feature or short film, web or TV comedy or drama series and improve your writing, story assessment and editing skills in these monthly drop-in feedback workshops, hosted online and in-person (at BECTU) by Theresa Boden on selected Mondays daytime - 1.15-4.15pm & evening - 6.15 -9.15pm.
The workshops are for a maximum of 6 writers (writing teams may attend as one participant) so booking is advised a week before the workshop. |
