I'm going back to work tomorrow. But I'm skipping the morning meeting...
First, and probably foremost, I didn't get at the tree trimming because I had no healthcare at all. I went for 26 years or so without healthcare coverage. If you live in America, you'll understand. If not, I can't begin to explain how archaic our system is. Without healthcare, there was no way I was going to climb a ladder or a tree.

Second, I didn't have a ladder. Once a tree gets too tall, I couldn't trim it. Last year I broke down and bought a ladder when they were on sale. Previously, I owned a rickety wooden ladder that was really only meant to make it easier to change light bulbs. Being cash strapped has been a constant for me for many years. It started with the Bush (W) Administration. Recession hit us hard. Both my husband and I were laid off before 9/11 was even a word.

Third, a sharp object to cut with. All I had was a lopper. You can't cut 2" thick limbs with a lopper. I attempted to use a pole saw. It wasn't easy to use and got stuck in the tree for a year. Then I broke the blade. I lost the screw holding on the lopping attachment. It was a disaster. Then I bought a hand held blade but I still didn't have a ladder. The hand held blade took forever to cut even one limb.

Now I have a mini-chainsaw and a ladder. I shut the power off to the garage. I'm finally making progress. Wish I had a chipper/shredder but for now, I'm happy. There will be light in the garden and there will be less likelihood of contacting the power line, plus the tree will grow better. Win - win!

Tree Trimming Time
I got a "good" sleep score last night, with duration being my worst stat, and I wore my mouth guard and cuddled with my Blåhaj as I've been doing.

This morning I got a notice in my AdventHealth app about a referral to a new neurologist, and I had gotten a phone call from Baylor Scott & White about this as well but said I was fine for now with my current one. Shitty communication is definitely a big issue with America's health system, next to doctors being Big Pharma pawns and cost, though my insurance is fine for now. America spends more on healthcare per capita than any other country in the world but is still the sickest "rich" country in the world, so we definitely need to find out where the hell all that money is going and get it moving in the right direction.

Lunch at the Fairview soup kitchen was a sliced croissant with tuna and vegetables separate to put on, but I just ate the croissant and the applesauce, and another guy gave me his.

Then I drove to the city park for a voice recording gig on Upwork, but I didn't go on a walk since the weather was hot.

Then I shopped for a few things at Walmart.

I've been on-and-off seeking clinical trials to earn extra money and scheduled a call with someone this afternoon for an epilepsy trial, but it involved another medication so I passed.

The biggest thing out of the MAHA Zoom meeting today was the new food pyramid that equalized proteins and dairy and fruits and vegetables, and put grains to be minimal, which I approve of. Before it was grains that was the largest category you were supposed to eat.

Today's also Kentucky senator Rand Paul's birthday, and I'm surprised he wasn't on the Zoom call since he's a big MAHA supporter.

Here's my Substack post with some of my AI art stuff about him.

I ate some of my leftover barbecue pork for dinner, but there were some gross fatty parts. I also made the mistake again of running my toaster oven and microwave at the same time when trying to microwave frozen peas

Lights, Camera, Action (Paranormal Talent Agency Book 1)Lights, Camera, Action by Heather Silvio

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

View all my reviews

I finished reading Lights, Camera, Action last night. It’s the first book in Heather Silvio’s “Paranormal Talent Agency” series. The main character is talent agent Catherin Rodham.

Catherine is happy working in NYC for Peterson Talent Agency, but when her boss offers her the chance to launch a branch office in Vegas, she seizes the opportunity. In very short order, she has rented an office suite, met domineering councilwoman Barbara Knollwood, and set up interviews. One of the first actors she places is Alex Moore, a devastatingly handsome man whom Catherine struggles to keep at a professional distance. After a young actress, who was part of the film that Catherine helped cast, is murdered, Alex becomes a person of interest. Now it’s up to Catherine to join forces with him to prove his innocence. Along the way, Alex introduces Catherine to a paranormal subculture she had no idea existed. The odd thing is, Catherine may be more connected to the paranormal than she thinks.

This was entertaining, but it all seemed quite rushed. Characters and plot were okay. I believe this series may be a spin-off of something else(?), which means some things were never really explained. I found that vexing. I also wasn’t too keen on the insta-connection, although the author didn’t try to put a bow on it and treat it like insta-love.

Thank you for writing and/or drawing for me! I’m also [archiveofourown.org profile] plutonianshores on AO3, and I have several previous letters on this journal if you want to look back at what I’ve requested in past exchanges. I’m requesting fic and art for all fandoms.

I’m totally fine with any levels of gore in gifts, and am also fine with character death (including of requested characters). Any ships for my requested solo characters, additional background ships, and combining my requested ships into poly ships are very welcome, as is adding pretty much any ship as a consensual established relationship to noncon porn. And feel free to include any of your favorite kinks! Barring my DNWs, I am into literally everything, my biggest turnon is reading fic or seeing art with the creator’s fave kinks included. I also have no preference for top/bottom or dom/sub choices in any ships if you’re writing/drawing porn (and don’t have a preference for maledom vs femdom in het ships). Any differences in prompt length are solely down to what I have previous prompts to draw from and what I don’t, and are no indication of what I want more or less!

Challenge #2: Pets of Fandom

Loosely defined! Post about your pets, pets from your canon, anything you want!

Edgar, named for Gloucester's son in King Lear, has been with me since I was in college. He's a fluffy white stuffed sheep that I bought at Kroger. He has the world's softest ears. My then-best friend was the owner of Edmund, Edgar's brother, a matching stuffed sheep in a slightly darker ecru. The black sheep of the family, you see.

Harriet, named for Dorothy L. Sayers' Harriet Vane, is a spotted hyena who was given to me by a friend for my birthday a year or so after I moved to my current home. Hyenas are one of my favorite animals--besides pigeons, of course.

I spotted an injured fox while out driving earlier today. I’m not an expert in wildlife by any means, but it looked very young, maybe less than a year old.  It was crossing the road and limping badly, but it tried to hurry away when I approached. I didn’t think it would let me get near, but I did at least have to try. I hope that it was just a sprain and that it will be able to heal and not die during the hard winter months. It was a real bummer, but it fled across the fields and I don’t think there’s a reliable way for me to go back, locate, and trap it to bring it to a wildlife rehab centre, alas.

In other news, ADHD is a wild ride sometimes. Remember how I got myself some locking dumbbells so I could do weightlifting exercises at home? Yeah. So, it turns out I did not read the product description carefully enough when I bought the product, and the box only comes with ONE dumbbell in it, which makes for some pretty lopsided exercises in many instances (especially when I want to use them to assist with squats or lunges or whatever). Fine, easily fixed, they’re on sale, whatever. I also thought that they went up in 5lb increments, but no, they go up in 10lb increments, which is a LOT for a baby beginner like me. My current thought is that I’m going to try to find some 5lb wrist or ankle weights and “attach” them to the dumbbell whenever I need to go up by 5lbs, but I’m not sure how feasible that is.

I’m keeping all of my new-to-me equipment in my bedroom, which faithful readers will remember is on the small side (9 x 11 feet), to the point where I had to invest in a Murphy bed in order to save on space. Right now my itty-bitty home gym tucks away nicely under the bed, but I can’t get much more “extra” equipment without running out of floor space in which

Any website that you like, be it fanfiction, art, social media, or something a bit more eccentric!

Okay, as a content creator who writes and draws for fun and professionally, here are 2 resources I swear by:

  • Hemingway Editor: Add your sentence/paragraph in and see if there are problems with it. More specifically with SPaG, weak/passive words, and reading level...this will highlight problematic areas that you might want to edit with general advice. This has also been a lifesaver at my past corporate jobs, because apparently, a lot of people don't know how to copywrite or edit properly!
  •

  • Coolors: This is my go-to when I can't decide on a color palette and I need something for a project! I use this for commissions, my own personal projects and when I want to experiment with colors and see what happens.
And I feel lousy, actuallly.

Grey, dank, depressing weather doesn't help, of course.

Finished nothing but The Coroner's Lunch, first of the Dr. Siri Paiboum mysteries set in Laos in the mid-70s after the Communist revolution. Am currently reading the sequel, Thirty-three Teeth. Might as well stick the Anglo-Saxons and Leonardo in the donation pile, because I doubt they'll tell me anything I'll remember. The A-Ses are all about church buildings for pages and pages, and do I care? Leonardo is maybe he did this or possibly he did that, and I came here for biography, not speculation.

I am not native to Minnesota. I choose to live here.

I’ve traveled the world, and while there are places that are warmer, friendlier, cheaper, and easier to live in, Minnesota feels right. The people here leave one another alone - and what others view as standoffishness, I see as respectful distance. But when someone needs help, people show up. It isn’t perfect - no place is - but it’s right for me.

People who haven’t spent much time here don’t understand the cycle of the seasons. Spring isn’t bright and green like it is elsewhere; it’s brown and muddy. Summer is hot and humid - sometimes among the hottest places on the planet—, sometimes smoky from wildfires, sometimes thick with mosquitoes. But the days are long, and the hiking and nature can be spectacular.

Fall is a time of coming together. While it’s not really my thing, as seasonal affective disorder starts to creep in, I can appreciate how important it is for others to gather—to share food, stories, and warmth.

Winter, however, is cold.

In snowy winters, the snow piles up and just keeps going. The joke is that by mid-January, two-lane roads become single-lane roads, and by early February—when there’s nowhere left to put the snow—the roads just start getting taller. This is when people ski and skate, take winter hikes, or retreat indoors to cook, read, watch TV, and spend time with family. This aligns with the public image of Minnesota: a place where time slows, where people are nice to one another in warm, yellow-lit houses while we wait for the cold, dark blues, greys, and whites to thaw.

But that isn’t all Minnesota is.

Minnesota is also about people working together and supporting one another. It’s about protesting injustice, as we’ve seen in response to the killings of Philando Castile, George Floyd, Amir Locke, and so many others. It’s about defending the most vulnerable—immigrants and Native people, the (Read more)

Thank you for writing and/or drawing for me! I am [archiveofourown.org profile] within_a_dream on AO3, and you can read my previous letters here if you want to see some of my previous exchange requests! I have requested both fic and art for all fandoms.

Feel free to grab prompts from previous letters if you want – my DNWs have changed over the years, but my general likes and fandom prompts pretty much haven’t.

If I don’t DNW a ship, feel free to include it in the background of a gift, I have very few NoTPs. Also feel free to include multiple requested ships in a gift or make any relationships poly. Trans characters, trans headcanons, and trans AUs always welcome. I enjoy aromantic, no-romo, friends-with benefits takes on ships and characters with unusual or nontypical attitudes towards romance (although I prefer for historical characters not to explicitly use the word aromantic). I’m also down for any amount of character death, graphic violence, and/or noncon.

Don’t feel bound to my prompts if none of them catch your interest – I’ll be happy with anything about my ships that doesn’t contain my DNWs!

Tonight's RPG session was cancelled at the last minute because one of the players couldn't make it, so we ended up playing Tales Of The Arthurian Knights. Unlike last time we played, we managed to play through all three ages of the game, with different approaches to gaining renown.
Sir Gawain went all out for the Romance Renown (and managed to end up a king as a result of one of their events) and Sir Percival ended up mad for some time, wandering around the marshes to the east of England. As Sir Palomides I focused on the courtly skill of Diplomacy, with a secondary focus in Piety, focusing on Divinity Renown. And Dame Enid doubled down on the Villainy Renown, taking any underhand option offered, including attempting to sabotage a ritual at the grail castle (and getting mauled by the guardian lions as a result) and as their final act sabotaging the unguent being prepared in Avalon to treat Arthur's mortal wound so that it would be ineffective.
When the final 'Destiny' scores were totalled (which is how the winner is determined), the outcomes were pretty close, with Sir Gawain narrowly in the lead, and then Sir Palomides, Dame Enid, and Sir Percival following fairly closely.

It's a fun game, and the mechanic uses card draws for the encounters, which are then cross-referenced to select a paragraph from the game's big book (like a big choose-your-own-adventure series of sections) to provide the details of the encounter - all of which are fully in line with the Arthurian milieu (there are a lot of ghostly knights in those kingdoms!) and result in each player's knight generating an epic personal legend.
Для нас, сецессионистов, это хорошая новость. Собственно, она хорошая вообще во всех отношениях.

People trying to use LLM/AI products earnestly, and getting scammy results:

“I renamed the file to mention Grand Cayman, and it told me how to book a flight to the Cayman Islands. Once I confirmed Copilot was just looking at the file name, I decided to try to trick it. I renamed the image “new-jersey-crystal-caves-limestone.jpg” and sure enough, the AI assistant was quick to tell me of the famous crystal cave of Ogdensburg, New Jersey. At no point did it correctly identify the location of the image.

“I’m presently tackling a very pointed question: Did I ever get permission to wipe the D drive? This requires immediate attention, as it’s a critical issue.” (Reddit post…with a bunch of commenters saying things like “why didn’t you, the human, spot this obvious issue with the LLM’s code,” when this product is specifically marketed to as “if you don’t know code, don’t worry, our product will handle it all for you!”)

“The [fourth grade] class was told to design a book cover for Pippi Longstocking. Not using pencils and paper — no, this is the AI era! So this was an exercise to teach the kids how to prompt an image generator. […] What they got back was four pictures of a woman dressed in what looks like schoolgirl fetish or goth nightclub gear. One of them is wearing a leather bikini outfit. But, they all have long red braids. And stockings.

ChatGPT started coaching Sam on how to take drugs, recover from them and plan further binges. It gave him specific doses of illegal substances, and in one chat, it wrote, “Hell yes—let’s go full trippy mode,” before recommending Sam take twice as much cough syrup so he would have stronger hallucinations. The AI tool even recommended playlists to match his drug use.” (The 19-year-old died of an overdose after following ChatGPT’s instructions.)

Dear Cupid,

Some of this is copied from previous letters, and I am also happy with what I asked for in my previous letters. I am very easy to please. Think of the prompts as vague suggestions to get your ideas flowing. As a rule, as long as the relationships I request are the focus, I’m going to be thrilled with whatever you come up with. I have received some wonderful gifts for many of these requests in the past. If I am requesting them again, it only means I am greedy and want more! (Seriously, go see my Gifts page. I have been spoiled rotten!) Don't read into some requests being longer than others. For some things, my entire request can be boiled down to, "Pretty! Want!"

I've had that post title in my head for days now.

Anyways, I have not been very active on this blog over the past *checks notes* eight years, so let's have a bit of catch-up.

The world went to shit, twice, I got into multiple podcasts, made a bunch of new friends on Discord, started participating in Get Your Words Out, Got back into Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, started writing fanfiction for that, and have now written a couple hundred thousand words of published fic for that series alone.

I've also grown up a ton, have far fewer fucks to give about the various bullshit things that have been happening in multiple spheres, and am determined to just create the fic I wanna see in the world, no matter what. And I'm having fun doing it!

That's ... not as long as I thought it was going to be. But it is still accurate.

Thank you for writing me a story for Candy Hearts!

Have some optional details about what I like and don't like in a story, as well as details about what I like about the individual fandoms and characters.

Ten years is a long fucking time to dip out on a community and then try to come back, but I went on an absolute rant in the comment section of Pajiba just before the New Year (and in it lamented the loss of LiveJournal) and one nice response said that Dreamwidth was still alive and kicking and so why not?

So maybe we can start by talking about why I left? For a few years I worked for a video production and marketing company, and a large part of my job was managing social media for the company and multiple clients. When you go from blogging because you love it to blogging for a living - and in someone else's voice - the idea of doing more of it at the end of the workday is just exhausting. I lost that little spark that made me love to write, and so I stopped.

So, ten years, and a lot of changes. I went from video production to a downtown management organization. I started there in transportation demand management (trying to get people out of their cars when they come to the downtown) then after a few years was promoted to special projects. I did some cool stuff, but COVID really put a halt to a lot of my ideas, unfortunately. Now I'm on the marketing and events team for the same organization, and loving it. Every day is different, I love my coworkers, and we put on beloved events. The general public can still be awful sometimes (my disdain from my coffee shop days keeps on keeping on) but for the most part people are lovely and appreciate what we do. So that's the job front.

Palmer and I have two kids now. A boy who is about to turn 7 and a girl who is 3. I'm trying to decide how much I want to write about them on the Internet, so vagueness for right now. But they're great. Smart and sweet and funny and I'm just praying I don't fuck them up too badly.

The pets we had the last time I posted have all died. Coco in 2021, Loki in 2022. Athena died late in 2024, and Goblin died in November. It has been a hard couple of years in that respect. We are down to one pet now, a swe (Read more)

Gonna give y'all a mix of fannish and non-fannish stuff.

Firstly, my non-fandom interest the past few years has been North Carolina folklore. And several months ago, I stumbled across The Broadside podcast from WUNC (which is one of NPR's local affiliates in North Carolina). The podcast isn't folklore-specific, but it shares a variety of interesting stories about North Carolina, ranging from venus flytrap preservation efforts to exploration of Black banjo players and everything weird and wonderful in between. (Sometimes it does touch on folklore too). Episodes are usually around 20-25 minutes long. (I like to listen while I'm cooking!)

Secondly, I looked through my open tabs and here are a bunch of exchange collections on ao3 that I'm still in the slow process of reading through. It's really never too late to read a fic (or appreciate fan art or listen to a podfic, etc). I'm sure the authors would appreciate more people enjoying their work!

Exchanges:
Whump Exchange 2025
Casefic Exchange 2025

Crossworks 2025
Trick or Treat 2025
Star Trek Holidays 2025

Happy reading and/or listening!
I posted about how I felt a storm coming and as soon I left I went to instagram to snoop and low and behold he'd liked a woman photo,
it was captioned "want to hang?"
he claims it wasn't him, but doesn't deny that it was there, and that the like came from his account. It just wasn't HIM who did it.
mind you this is the same lie he's been telling for years. "I was hacked" "that wasn't my snapchat"
I feel disgusted with myself.
how can I allow this to continue to happen? is love really that deep, or is it just the toxicity.

I began this after 11 a.m. on Sunday, and as usual, I had already been awake for some time.   I posted yesterday's entry and sent Debra a copy.   I noticed I shared Friday’s Entry on my Facebook page, and my cousin Marianne saw it.   I am glad I didn’t say anything about family.

Laura from OS called to discuss the group's luncheon.   We gave 1/24 or 2/7 with a Superbowl theme.  Even though the food list is set, I checked the calendar and coordinated with Carole to schedule a meeting about the clubhouse.    Everyone seems to like the 24th this month

I've been working for the last three days, and it has been extremely busy.   I am still behind on the scanning I hope to get caught up with it by Friday.  I'll work half a day tomorrow due to an infusion appointment.      I had to leave early yesterday because I was having stomach issues.

I had intended to visit the diner this evening; however, after an unsuccessful search for my debit card and work identification earlier today, I opted to postpone those plans.    I discovered it this evening upon returning home. I wish I had located it earlier in the day, as I had to manually enter my credentials.

After I got home, I did chores and found the ID.    I disposed of the garbage and recyclables and completed the dishwashing tasks.  I need to fold my clothes before going to bed.  But as we all know the clothes will not get folded.

I heard from Kristian this week.  He was just thanking me for the card.  He just opened and read this week as he was out of town until recently.  He sounded good

I am going to finish watching TV and go to bed.

everytime I say this I really am stealing valour from the subaltern who really can't read and haven't been reading but my god, like, Bruh... uh a very lackluster or normal af reading year for me... 2025 was a year that had a lot going on or maybe not that much going on or maybe I really did become a newer better person or something idk, hard to tell, who knows! who knows! I'm bad at actually making my reading_lists posts and also I've documented my reading and opinions of elsewhere this year... so should I do it again? I don't know... I'm having the reverse of my usual crisis where I don't want to waste time writing because I want to be reading... sorry I have A List to get through... I have a normal sized list....                    and a scary ...         and a real and normal-small amount of books at home... which I bought quite a few books in 2025 [and some within the last week] [and obviously to commemorate nothing, I did a meaning-and-secret-and-impromptu exchange with H where she got me YOUR NAME HERE and I got her the complete cavafy].
