That would imply that you’re logged in with a user account that is not an administrator. If you are an administrator, I’d try logging out and then back in again.

Thanks. I was logged in as an admin. I have logged out and back in again as an admin, and it’s made no difference. I’ve also logged in as admin on my phone and tried from there – still get the same error.

Oh, I just noticed the URL is plugins.php instead of admin.php, which explains the error. Which settings link did you click on? It should either be /wp-admin/options-general.php?page=akismet-key-config (if you don’t have Jetpack installed) or /wp-admin/admin.php?page=akismet-key-config (if you do have Jetpack installed).

If you have any other plugins installed that modify the menus, that might be the culprit.

    Thanks.

The url is the same for both the Settings and your Akismet Settings page links below

    Akismet Anti-spam: Spam Protection

Disable Updates | Settings | Deactivate

Used by millions, Akismet is quite possibly the best way in the world to protect your blog from spam. It keeps your site protected even while you sleep. To get started, just go to your Akismet Settings page to set up your API key.

    Version 5.3.7 | By Automattic – Anti-spam Team | View details

I have tried your suggested url and that made no difference.

Will try deactivating plugins one by one later.

So going to /wp-admin/admin.php?page=akismet-key-config still shows you the “Sorry, […]” error message?

Yes, unfortunately. Both the ‘with Jetpack’ url and the ‘without Jetpack’ url report the same error.

The Elementor family of plugins that we’re using, settings url /wp-admin/admin.php?page=xxx, also report the same error.

But the Contact7 settings url /wp-admin/admin.php?page=xxx does work!

Wary of deactivating plugins on the live site in case they don’t work when reactivated…

If you’re able to just post a list of the plugins you have installed, I can try reproducing this problem on a test site.

    Thanks, I’ll investigate.
