sitemap is blank
-
Hey there, I moved my website from Wix to WordPress/hostinger. After installing Yoast, I tried to obtain a sitemap but the page I get is blank.
Any help?
Thank you!

@yosky `The source code for the sitemap is empty. This typically means your site has a static file on the server or there’s a conflict with a plugin or theme. Please remove any static sitemap files as Yoast SEO does not create a physical file on your server.
If you do not find any static sitemap files, this may be a plugin or theme conflict. Please disable all plugins except Yoast SEO, and use one of the default (Twenty*) themes. If the problem goes away, enable plugins one by one to identify the source of your troubles.
If you can install plugins, the <a href=”https://wordpress.org/plugins/health-check/” rel=”noopener noreferrer” target=”_blank”>Health Check & Troubleshooting</a> plugin offers a troubleshooting mode that will disable all plugins and change the theme for you, while you’re still logged in, <strong>without affecting normal visitors to your site</strong>. Once in the troubleshooting mode, please activate <strong>only</strong> Yoast SEO and attempt to reproduce the issue you described.
If you are unfamiliar with checking for conflicts, we’d like to point you to a step-by-step guide that will walk you through the process: <a href=”https://yoast.com/help/how-to-check-for-plugin-conflicts/#utm_source=support&utm_medium=forum&utm_campaign=support-link”>How to check for plugin conflicts</a>`It looks that WordPress/Site URLs still points to
http://
(non-secure) version. Sitemaps will be rendered into browser only if you access them via https://pattygajaschi.com/sitemap_index.xmlIf you use Divi theme then you should disable/enable sitemaps after changing WP/Site URLs or similar options (forcing SSL,…).
Hi @stodorovic Thank you very much.
I have a SSL installed and on my hosting dashboard I can see HTTPS is forced. What should I do?
Also, how can I enable/disable sitemaps with Divi theme? Is only Divi theme or builder as well?
Sorry for all these questions but as I said I am very new to this and need some help 🙂
Thanks again
I’ll try to quickly answer in couple tips:
- Make sure that both WordPress and Site URLs point to correct secure URLs – https://wordpress.org/support/article/changing-the-site-url/
- Purge all cache which you have installed (I see LiteSpeed cache, but maybe there is other caching)
- Divi themes/builder force deprecated Yoast’s sitemap cache (into transients – disabled by default into Yoast) – https://yoast.com/help/sitemap-does-not-update/:
Please disable the sitemap feature, clear cache, and enable the sitemap feature to force the sitemap to rebuild.
Hi @stodorovic
I did as you said and it seems to work! Thank you!
Now as I click on Yoast Sitemap feature, I get redirected to a new tab where I can see the actual map (https:// format). Also Google Search Console seems having recognized the new URLs structure.I recap the steps as they might be useful for someone else:
– I’changed both WordPress and Site URLs in the WP general settings to make them point to a HTTPS:// (as it was set on a http://).
– I’ve disabled Yoast Sitemap feature;
– Deleted caches both in WP and hosting (Litespeed and autoptimize);
– reactivate Yoast Sitemap feature.
Again thank you very much!
Last favor: I need to direct two old links I had on Wix to 2 new URLs belonging to this new version on WP. Any recommendation?
THANKS 🙂
The fastest way is to add them into .htaccess (Litespeed works on same way as apache). You can check with your host if there are some tool on control panel or you can use some plugin (eg. Redirection) or you can buy Yoast SEO premium.
Thank you so much @stodorovic stodorovic!
Thank you as always @stodorovic!
Hi @yosky
Thank you for sharing this information. Upon checking your sitemap index, it is now loading as expected under HTTPS. However, the post sitemap seems to be empty. Please do check and customize it accordingly – https://yoast.com/help/how-to-customize-the-sitemap-index/
@mikes41720 thanks Michael. Post sitemap is empty because I have no posts at the moment 🙂
