    Hello,
First of all, thank you for the plugin and your support!
I noticed that the “Backup Now” button in BackWPUp only creates local backups and does not trigger backups to an external FTP server—even when I have configured an FTP server as the destination in the Files backup job. This means I cannot manually start a backup job that targets FTP. This is especially inconvenient before WordPress updates, as I want to have an external backup ready with just one click. In the past, I used a URL call to do this, but since version 5.0, it no longer works reliably, and I’m just glad if I can manage to do it manually at all.
It would be great if there was a way to manually trigger an external backup (e.g., to FTP) via the button, without having to download the backup locally and then upload it manually to the FTP server. This would greatly improve security and workflow.
Still, thanks again for the plugin and your support!

    Hi,

Thank you so much for your thoughtful feedback and kind words!

You’re absolutely right — the current “Backup Now” button only creates a local backup and doesn’t use the configured storage like FTP. We know this isn’t ideal, especially in the scenarios you mentioned, and the good news is we’re working on this. In fact, the ability to run a specific job (with its proper settings and destination) via a button is planned for version 5.2.

Until then, as a workaround, you can go to Advanced Settings > Jobs > Access to Jobs and click “Run now” next to your FTP-configured job. That will trigger the correct backup to the external destination.

We really appreciate your continued support and suggestions — it’s feedback like yours that helps shape the future of BackWPup!
