I see there’s a new version that requires WordPress 6.6 or later. That means it won’t install on ClassicPress, which was forked from WordPress 6.2.

Is this a solid functionality requirement, or just an arbitrary threshold?

    Hi there, @kelson!

Thanks for the question – we tested it by downgrading our test site to version 5.9 and everything worked well, so it should be safe to use it with v6.2.

We’re going to update that requirements from our end to version 6.2 – thanks for flagging this out!

The minimum WordPress version is now 6.2. @kelson – hopefully you’ll be able to see it in your plugins list.

I was going to test this today, but I see it’s back to requiring 6.6 with no explanation.

Edit: I see there was an issue with older PHP versions. Was there actually a problem with the older WordPress versions too?

Would it be helpful for me to manually install 2.0 on my ClassicPress site to confirm that it works there with a more recent PHP? If it does, would it be feasible to bump the PHP version instead of the WP version, or would the WP plugin update system still try to install the newer release on sites with older PHP setups?

Here’s the issue on GitHub for anyone else finding this thread: https://github.com/Automattic/jetpack/issues/41441

If you’re running PHP 8+ on your site, then you’ll be able to run 2.0.0, but we’re not going to bump the PHP version, as there are working polyfills in WordPress, that weren’t loaded early enough for caching plugins to use them until WP 6.3. Hopefully, ClassicPress can merge with WP 6.6 some time in the future.
