This should be easy to get with the table layout of the pro version http://tiptoppress.com/term-and-category-based-posts-widget/documentation-4-7/#Table.
You might be able to get it with some advanced CSS with the free version.
With our pro version we have much more layout options:

I have a couple of questions, hopefully it’s ok to post them here. If you prefer I can post again in the pro forum.
If I set layout to masonry the items are displaying in one column with a small bullet point before each item.
If I set the layout to table I get 2 columns but no space between them vertically.
Ideally I want masonry, random, 2 columns.
