Large Imports can expend /tmp directory size

I’m using the plugin to import a relatively large site, including about 1750 media items.

After working through several issues (including Apache’s default timeout that would make the process 404 after 5 minutes), I realized that the import process makes great use of the /tmp folder – I’m guessing as part of importing and processing the images. It will use several GB. When it runs out of space in there, subsequent media items simply won’t import properly.

Failed to import Media “Image Title”: Zero size file downloaded

Is there any way that the plugin can clean up after itself after it processes an image, saving room in the /tmp folder for the remaining media items?
