Hi,
I want to say that SEO is like a religion, everyone has feelings and this guy is not an exception. He doesn’t want to hear any opinions or accept any suggestions in the comments.
He mentions that they have 20k articles and looks like they have enabled all 100 languages we offer. Not a good idea, but it really depends on your content and if you care about the content quality or not. We have customers with over 300k articles and they are getting lot’s of traffic on translated pages.
It doesn’t matter how you translate your website. The end result is if you have N pages and add one additional language, you will end up having 2xN pages. Can it affect your SEO – yes, absolutely! Usually it is a good thing if your original content is good and the website is structured properly.
We recommend adding languages gradually and correcting any mistakes it the automatic translation – in other words you need to care about your new translated content. We even offer a service to post-edit the automatic translations.
You can use sub-domain URL structure (es.example.com, de.example.com, etc.) to have a separate website per language, so if something goes wrong, it only affects the translated sub-domain. Some users report having better results with sub-directory URL structure (example.com/es/, example.com/de/, etc.), since it passes the “SEO score” of the main website better. You can also have custom domains for each language like example.es or example.de and they will have better results on local search engine results pages like google.es and google.de.
For your specific case (a small shop with few products) I would say that you will be fine with the paid version and will notice traffic bump in a couple of months after you use the paid version.
GTranslate is a powerful tool with multiple possibilities to make your website multilingual quickly and effortlessly. If you use it right you will have great results. If you do mistakes, you may hurt yourself.
Thanks! 🙂
Thanks for the clear and fast reply Edo!
