• Message reads: THERE HAS BEEN A CRITICAL ERROR ON THIS WEBSITE.

What does this mean? Is it something you are fixing’? On another page a message reads: I have a temporary domain and you are fixing something. I’m new to this world, but I would really like to blog. I am also having trouble transferring my blogs from WP.com to this WP.ORG site. ??

Please help and/or advise what is happening and what I need to do.

    Much appreciated.

    Tamberly

  • The reason for the error should be visible in the error log. You can find it in your hosting area. If necessary, the support of your hosting can help you.

Alternatively, you could also enable debugging in WordPress. How to do this is described here: https://wordpress.org/support/article/debugging-in-wordpress/ – also here the support of your hosting can help you if necessary to edit the file accordingly.

In both cases you should be able to see what the cause is in the logfile.

Hi @saltytraveler, could you please provide more details about what action you performed just before the error appeared? For example, did it occur after activating a theme or plugin, modifying any code, or doing something else?

Generally, this kind of issues show up when there are some errors in the code of your active theme or one of your plugins. It needs further diagnosis. I can suggest a primary solution, you can try changing the active theme and deactivating all the plugins temporarily. Do these one by one, and see after which deactivation the issue disappears.

    Have a good day.
