I have Woo Subscriptions – https://woocommerce.com/products/woocommerce-subscriptions/ – on several sites and I’m interested in switching to StellarPay. The key issue is — I don’t want to lose any of my existing subscriptions.

So, can StellarPay import the existing subscriptions? Or would switching cause the loss of all current subscriptions?

    Hey @anphira

This is a fantastic question, and one that we anticipated for sure.

The short answer is that the only way currently to migrate from WooCommerce Subscriptions to StellarPay is to do it manually with the help of a developer familiar with WooCommerce Subscriptions (and any customizations as far as the critical data needed for your specific store).

It’s definitely possible, but right now it’s not what I’d call “easy.”

The problem with building a tool to do that migration is the sheer number of moving (or unknown) parts.

The way WooCommerce Subscriptions handles the data (and the connection to Stripe, even) is markedly different than how StellarPay does, and so moving from one to the other means you have to account for those difference, and for the various ways that WooCommerce Subscriptions does things differently. One notable example is the way Woo Subscriptions actually triggers the subscription: the last time I looked, it’s not technically even a subscription on the Stripe side, it’s a series of one-time transactions that WooCommerce Subscriptions is pulling together to act like a subscription. (that’s potentially not true at all, as I’ve just not looked at Woo Subscriptions in a while and could be confusing it with other ecommerce stuff I’ve looked at lately)

We’ve not ruled out building a migration tool, but it’s not on the immediate plans.

It’s nevertheless a huge priority to be able to support folks who want to migrate their sites from WooCommerce Subscriptions (or any other Stripe-based Subscription service for WooCommerce Stores) to StellarPay, so our short -term goal is to put together some documentation on how it all works that’s developer-level (but accessible to folks who don’t want to be elbow-deep in the code) and walks through the potential gotchas involved with a migration.

If you’d like to help us as we write that documentation, we’d certainly welcome it. The best way you can do that would be to let us know what information is critical in the WooCommerce Subscriptions data as you anticipate migrating to StellarPay. In other words: what are the “must-haves” for that transition?

To gather the answers to that question (without clogging up the forum here) I’ve moved this to a feature request here on our feedback site.

I’ll go ahead and mark this as resolved, so that all conversation about it can happen on our feedback site!

    Thanks again for reaching out.
