Finances

We try to maintain transparent and up-to-date financial records using ledger-cli. Since 2025, our complete financial records are available to members in the devhack/finances repository. You can check out the .ldg file directly, and there are also example commands that you can run that are documented in the README.

Usually $3000-$3300/mo.

Based on recent patterns, here are our typical monthly expenses (bills with due dates are called "Liabilities:AP" in ledger):

• Rent: $2,500 (since July 2025, then $2,600 in January 2026)
• Electricity: $250-$500 (average per month, but billed bimonthly; highly variable depending on A/C and heating needs)
• Garbage: $130-$190 (somewhat variable, see Trash)
• Alarm system: ~$100
• Lawyer's retainer: $50
• Internet: ~$70

Usually $3200-$3700/month:

• Membership dues: $2300-$2800 (varies based on new members, churn, etc.)
• SCN sublease: $600
• Andrew the Therapist sublease: $300 (sometimes prepaid quarterly)
  • Note that Andy requests a receipt to be sent to him every time he pays.
