November
As a technical editor who mainly uses Microsoft Word and Adobe Acrobat DC (Pro), I will absolutely use what I learned in this course. My company partners with several states that require all documentation to be 508 compliant, and this was a very good way for newer editors to learn the basics. Anyone who creates and/or edits digital or print products for internal or public use would be well-served by this course.
October
I've been working in this field for years and I still learned things. It was a back to basics training I needed.
September
There were many aspects of accessibility that I was not considering with my document creations and I immediately began using.
This course is a great way to easily learn tools for accessibility. I especially appreciate learning that accessibility is a continuum and not an absolute. When creating documents, I think about how I am ensuring to reach as many users as possible.
August
I learned so much more. I've been in training sessions for years but this course made it clear and I understand the "WHY" and "HOW" this attention to accessibility is needed.
This was the best online course I've ever taken.
July
As a working professional and father of two, the structure of this course was great for me to balance the lessons with my busy schedule. I learned a ton about basic document formatting that I did not previously know. I think many professionals that I work with use word and ppt on a daily basis but do not know all of the software features and tools. It would be so helpful to have this as a basic college course for business majors. I would've loved to have learned this earlier in my career!
May
This course really opened my eyes to how inaccessible many publicly shared informational materials currently are! I will be using what I learned in this course to make my employer's informational material easier to interpret to those using assistive technology. I have already began telling all my colleagues about this course. Thank you for creating this course!
April
I have been using Microsoft Office Suite for decades, and I learned so many finer details of the products' functionality and versatility. Some things I had been doing wrong for years. Other things I did not know existed. And I am considered one of the most fluent users on my university's campus--so, yes, my knowledge and skills have increased dramatically.
I had little prior knowledge of making documents and presentations accessible and now feel ready to optimize them for many different populations.
I feel everyone should take this course to have a understanding when creating flyers, notes, quizzes/tests, PowerPoints, etc.
March
This was a fabulous course. Pacing was great and the materials answered a ton of questions.
February
I liked the depth of the course. I feel confident, but not overwhelmed.
I can't emphasize enough how practical this course is for users who want a training that is simple and no fuss.
I am a Distance Learning Accessibility Specialist at a community college. I am always looking to increase my knowledge so I can better support our faculty. This course was very helpful and I have already used what I've learned to help others.
January
I'm pretty familiar with Word and Adobe, but learned a lot about accessibility I wasn't aware of.
I like that you had so many tools available. There was the video, the electronic output on the page to review, copies of the documents you could download and follow along. That's the most information I've had available for a course before. I also liked how the quizzes were short and with each section so I could better retain the information and I liked how I could go back and review the answers I missed.
This course had clear and comprehensive examples of the main issues and clear ways to resolve and/or remediate those issues. I appreciated the video and the text versions, it allowed me to reaffirm what I was watching and to see it in text was helpful. I also was grateful that there were pedagogical reasonings provided for why these best practices should be used, beyond just the law but like for all our learners.
2024
I really appreciated the information for using both Mac and Windows. As a long-time Mac user, I didn't know much about different accessibility features in Word, PowerPoint, etc. on Windows. Participating in the course provided me with stronger skills to support faculty who use various devices and platforms.
Everyone wants tidbits of information these days; they do not want to spend time in a class. I feel the videos provided in the courses are the perfect vehicle for this. They would help people understand that 508 is not a burden but a benefit to all users.
This course was awesome! You truly don't know what you don't know and I am so glad I took this course.
I've done spot checks for contrast before, but having WebAIM's checker and a more specific set of guidelines beyond, "this looks like the contrast will be fine to my own eye" is incredibly helpful.
Having the content of the video also in text format below was most helpful. I referenced it often as I like to take notes.
I appreciate all the opportunities via quizzes, exams and exercises to practice what I learned in this course.
I am now more aware of the tools available when it comes to accessibility.
I learned so much regarding document and powerpoint formatting, accessibility checks, and optimizing PDFs. It made me much more aware of how everyone may access and utilize my documents and presentations.
Excellent course and good value for money.
I found this course to be a great foundation for creating accessible documents. I will be taking the concepts learned to my team to support our efforts to create accessible content.
The videos were really helpful to be able to walk me through the items, I think the current layout with the video and the step by step instructions is really helpful for people who learn differently.
The course was very well structured and had good video and written information.
This was a great refresher course for me. There were some new things that were helpful.
The charts and graphs sections were the most useful to me. I have not found much information about accessible charts and graphs online.
The Word and PDF sections were quite informative even though I have been remediating documents for a little while, there were a number of smaller details that I was not aware of.
It was well organized, and the modules were easy to follow. I liked having multiple methods to review content. I prefer to listen, while also reading the content below the video.
The course provides knowledge and understanding of the current software available, how to review existing documents, and how to be mindful when creating new documents.
The course was set up in a very easy and accessible platform.
I love this course. This is the second time I have taken it over the past few years.
I have already recommended this course to colleagues.
I appreciate the information delivered in several modalities: as a text, in auditory format, and supplemented with screenshots and video demonstrations. This course was designed for all learners—kinesthetic, auditory, and visual. It is a great model for me as a teacher! Thank you for demonstrating everything on a PC and Mac!
This is a valuable learning experience and I appreciate that I had the opportunity to participate. I hope that more people take advantage as I know there are not enough of us out there who know these things about Accessibility. Thank you!
I appreciate your efforts. Many students stand to benefit from instructors getting up to speed on accessibility.
I've already let my peers know how useful this course has been.
I had some working knowledge prior to this course, but there was a lot of new information to learn. The pacing was good and allowed me to keep from getting ahead of myself.
The schedule seemed just about right—I could do it in pieces during the week between other projects and meetings.
I liked the format, it was easy to navigate, and the quiz questions helped me to review what I learned and make sure I didn't miss anything. I also appreciated having the text and guides in addition to the videos. Very well designed training.
I appreciate your strategic approach to accessibility that provides the information as well as framing on how to apply it to our individual situations.
The structure made it a reasonable training for busy people. I was able to apply material from the course to my work as I learned it, which was valuable and reinforced my learning.
Even as an experienced user, this training provided handy tips and perspective on creating accessible docs.
Before the class, I felt like I had a pretty good understanding of accessibility in documents, and while some of the information I did already know, there was a lot I didn't and it was very helpful!
This was SO helpful! I'm definitely going to recommend to colleagues!
This course needs to be shared and taken by all teaching on-line. EVERYONE.
2023
I already had some understanding of document accessibility, but not as it related specifically to excel, and with how often we are working off spreadsheets, it is great to better understand how we can make sure all is accessible, not just forms and other text-based documents.
I have recommended this course to everyone who has asked, and I am working with my institutional vice presidents to have this incorporated into departmental trainings.
Having both text and video was most helpful. I can't always watch a video if I'm in the library, but having the text/images as well allowed me to get through the course in a timely manner.
It was very informative and well-structured. Thank you!
I was afraid I would forget material between the weekly sessions, but the break actually helped, and I felt I was able to retain the information I learned and apply it in the following weeks.
Overall, I enjoyed the course. It was nice that the training wasn't super long. The training was filled with a lot of good information, but not too much information. The balance in material vs. time made learning the material stress free and easy to comprehend.
