“A Seal Story” follows a day in the life of a mother seal and her pup as they navigate the challenges imposed by human interference on the beach. The film calls for a collective understanding about how the dangers of human interference impact marine mammals, and asks for members of the public to be part of a collaborative effort to reduce beach waste while respecting wild seals and their space.
While creating the film there was a great emphasis on collaboration-- extending from the film’s message to its production and origins. My fellow directors and I worked in close collaboration with one another to bring the story and artistic vision of “A Seal Story” to life, utilizing our individual artistic strengths to create a cohesive visual style and smooth production pipeline.
Perhaps most importantly, the film originated from collaboration between the directors and marine mammal experts from several rescue centers across the Pacific, who provided a wealth of knowledge and insight during research and development on the film. Without their help, this film would not have been possible.
