Fear the Laakposht!
ISF's mission is to unite students who are interested in Iranian culture, build a stronger presence on the greater University of Maryland College Park campus, and maintain a bond with the neighboring Iranian-American communities.
After much consideration, The Iranian Students' Foundation at the University of Maryland has decided to host Nowruz this year.
In moments like these, it would be easier to step back and cancel these events. But our traditions have never existed separate from struggle, they have endured because of it.
This year's gatherings will not look the same as past years. They will center reflection, unity, cultural pride, and community connection. We will approach them with intention and care.
Choosing to gather is not an act of celebration detached from reality. It is an act of solidarity. It is a statement that our culture will not be silenced, that our hope will not be dimmed, and that we remain connected to one another and to Iran.
Nowruz and Chahar Shanbeh Soori are rooted in renewal, courage, and resilience. In holding these events, we aim to honor those values.
In recognition of the financial realities that make events of this scale possible, tickets will be required. We have significantly reduced costs, beyond what is financially capable, in an effort to keep these gatherings accessible and respectful. Support from our community directly sustains our ability to gather responsibly and respectfully with care.
We move forward with intention, unity, and a commitment to the Iranian culture and community.
