Hello, I'm Tempest, and this is Sapkaer, my little corner of the Internet.

What does Sapkaer mean?

Everything I think is important needs a good name, and this website was no exception. Since it's a personal website, I needed the name to feel as me as possible, something that feels like it makes instant sense when I pronounce it. So I settled on Sapkaer. But what does it mean?

As someone of Sinti descent (see the About Tempest infobox), I picked out two words in the Sinte Romani language:

  • Sap: Snake
  • Kher (pronounced kair): House

With a little tweaking of the word kher into kaer to guide English speakers into the right pronunciation, I landed on Sapkaer, literally house of the snake. It's as simple as that. Welcome to my little digital home, welcome to Sapkaer.
