About item groups

Item groups allow you to control which items from your Travel data feed are eligible to serve in your ad group. Selected items will be used to show in ads, as well as to expand the reach of the ad.

For example, you may create an item group containing only "Events in New York" from your data feed containing all Events in the United States.

This provides more control and helps reach interested users using the selected items.

A data feed is required to use item groups.

Benefits

Item groups offer several benefits:

  • Granular control: Decide which feed items to show in ads. For example, select "Four star hotels in Toronto," or "Taylor Swift Concerts in London" to only display those items in your ads.
  • Expand Reach: Use the power of Google AI to improve the reach of your ads using the selected items.

Create an item group

When setting up your campaign, you may create an item group for your ad group. Item groups act as filters for your data feed to define the specific items you want to display in your ad, and to expand reach using these items.

To create an item group, you can follow these steps:

  1. While setting up your campaign, navigate to the Keywords and ads section.
  2. Click Select feed items to open the item group slider panel.
  3. Apply filter rules to narrow down the items from your feed. You can use dimensions specific to a vertical like hotel rating, or general dimensions like location.
    • For example, if you only want to include vacation rentals in Texas for a campaign, you would apply a filter for "region: Texas."
  4. Click Save at the bottom left corner of the slider panel. Only the subset of items in your feed that match your defined criteria will be included in that campaign.

Notes:

  • Your selected filter rules will be dynamically applied to the contents of your data feed, and the resulting item group will be updated accordingly. For example, an events item group with filters "City: Berlin" will include all new events in Berlin as they appear in the data feed.
  • Each ad group in your campaign can have up to one item group. Item groups may contain your entire feed, or a subset thereof. Booking link ads require the creation of an item group in order to serve.
