This character requires at least Blender 5.0, and WILL NOT WORK on lower versions!
Like the previous characters Rain and Snow, Storm’s body rig was created using the CloudRig addon by Demeter Dzadik, rigging TD at Blender Studio. The facial rig, was crafted by Rik Schutte, lead animator at Blender Studio. We've used a combination of traditional facial rigging techniques such as shapekeys, ribbon guides, and lattice deformations to build Storm’s expressive and flexible face rig. A poselibrary with facial-, hand- and full body poses are included with the asset download package to kickstart your posing that can be accessed through the asset shelf in the 3d viewport. This setup allows animators to create lively and convincing facial expressions with both precision and ease. To support this facial rigging workflow, the developers at Blender have also introduced several new tools and improvements, included with Blender 5.0.

When opening the file, you may be prompted to allow execution of Python scripts. This is necessary for the custom rig UI, which houses the following features you may be used to from our rigs:

I'm still pretty new to Blender and this is my first time using one of your assets, so unfortunately after loading him I... Can't figure out how to move anything. Is there an instruction manual or tutorial video somewhere that I should check out? The demo video is fantastic and I've really struggled finding resources for nice, stylized, Pixar-esque model making in Blender so I'm truly excited and thankful for this asset and I'm really eager to learn from it... I just need a little nudge on how to get started with it. Thanks in advance!
I’m studying this file by breaking it down. When creating the lip zipper using Plain Axes with constraints and drivers, was a Python script used to set everything up at once? There are so many Plain Axes that doing this manually one by one feels like an enormous amount of tedious work..
@kim hwibin With the help of ChatGPT, I created a Python script and successfully applied it, so there was no need to do everything by hand one by one. 😄
@kim hwibin Yeah, there were a lot of one-off scripts involved. :)
Without a doubt, high-quality rig.
I'll animate it with the new add-on that i found: AnimEasy.
this is awesome! btw is there a way to change the pupil size, I only saw the main cntl
Been waiting for this for a while, glad it's out and great job guys! Will we have a meta rig for face in the future to apply on any character we like? and I think the body rig used on Storm is the same as cloud correct? Thanks!
@Sheldon J Smith Heya, the face wasn't rigged with CloudRig, but the body was, yes. So there's no metarig for the face to speak of, it was just done manually. You should be able to re-generate the body rig with the latest CloudRig installed (the metarig is in the file already, just hidden, see rig helpers collection). The head rig is just left untouched by the rig generation process (using a post-generation script to combine the body and head rigs back together after the body rig is re-generated).
Is there a place for bug reports on the rig, I turned on the socks and they dont seem to be attached to the feet
@Luciano A. Muñoz Sessarego I've found other issues with the leg stretch off, the roll control stops working properly when pushing the leg back
@Luciano A. Muñoz Sessarego Hey Luciano, the socks thing should be fixed now if you re-download, and the foot roll not working well in combination with leg stretching is an old CloudRig issue, I'll bump it higher on my TODO list since you mentioned it. ^^ Reporting bugs here in the comments is good, thank you!
Storm only has a metarig for the body. Is the reason there’s no metarig for the face rig because you introduced a new technique this time? like in the description
@John Ko Yeah, the face was rigged non-procedurally by Rik. The post-generation script implements preserving of the face rig from the previous generation, so only the body rig is re-generated. The rig UI is also preserved from the previous rig. So we basically had to cheat a little bit to be able to collaborate and combine two different rigging workflows, but it turned out pretty smooth.
Cant wait to take him for a spin !
Thanks a ton for this rig, it'll be a super valuable learning resource! I'm just wondering, using the Metarig to regenerate the Rig throws an error. Is that expected behavior since the final rig is a combination of CloudRig and manual rigging or is that something to be looked into?
@KSDN Heya, you will need the next version of CloudRig that is lagging slightly behind on release, but it should be out before the weekend.
@Demeter Dzadik Of course that makes sense! Very excited for the version and thanks for making CloudRig, it's been a lifesaver
I is me or the there is a problem with the DEF-Lips_upp_micro6.L and DEF-Lips_corn_micro.L ? They seem inverted (like, trying to move one will move the other instead).
@Didier Merette Dufresne Wow, let me re-write that (never do two things at the same time)
Is it me or there is a problem with the DEF-Lips_upp_micro6.L and DEF-Lips_corn_micro.L controllers ? They seem inverted (like, trying to move one will move the other instead).
@Didier Merette Dufresne Thanks, should be fixed now in v1.1 along with a couple other little things.
@Didier Merette Dufresne yup good catch! We'll address it, should be an updated version soon.
Fantastic, great work!
Beautifully rigged and beautifully animated — this is top-level work. Thanks for sharing!
