Labyrinth - Alternate Opening

As a kid Labyrinth was one of my absolute favorite movies -and it still has a special place in my heart. As much as I love the film I have always felt that the opening scene, where Sarah wears a fancy dress and recites dialogue from a book, feels a bit off. So I wanted to see if I could come up with another way to handle that scene.

Now I don't for one moment think that this is better than the scene in the film, I don't think I'm smarter than Jim Henson and Terry Jones! But I had fun with this and hope you like it too. I might do another pass later on, there are some things in this take I might want to do different.

Chickenhare and the Hamster of Darkness - Opening Sequence

In 2019 I worked for seven months as a story artist on the animated feature: Chickenhare and the Hamster of Darkness. We worked with a small team of only
three story artists, working closely with director Benjamin Mousquet.

Chickenhare, based on the graphic novels by Chris Grine, is an exciting adventure story full of danger and action. It was a wonderful opportunity to play
around in this world. The storyboard on the next pages is part of the opening sequence.

Chickenhare and the Hamster of Darkness was produced by nWave Digital and was released in cinemas in 2022.

Get that Cat!

Paris, 1964. Audrey, a young timid bookseller, and her cat Carlos live together in a tiny apartment full of books. But Audrey’s life gets turned upside down when one morning Carlos runs away. While looking for Carlos, Audrey blunders into an undercover police operation, a stakeout meant to catch a mysterious super villain known only as the cat . . . Of course the detectives are convvinced she is part of the Cat’s gang and she is now their prime target.

In this sequence Audrey makes her way back home after she fell into the river Seine, she doesn’t notice the undercover detectives who are now watching her.

Get that Cat! is a personal project, based on an idea for a feature I have been playing around with. This sequence was done as part of Matt Jones’s Storyboarding for Feature Animation class.

My Little Pony: A New Generation - Beat Boards

My Little Pony: A New Generation is the latest feature film in the beloved My Little Pony series. It is the first story using the new (fifth) generation of MLP characters, it also the very first CG film in the MLP series.

I worked on this film for eight months, as an in-house story artist at Boulder Media in Dublin. I got to work on several big action set-pieces, dramatic scenes and a comedy montage. The panels above are beat boards from an early version of the scene where sheriff Hitch leaves deputy Sprout in charge.
