HUGEO

HUGEO (Hungary Geosynchronous Communications Satellite) is a planned communications spacecraft being developed by Northrop Grumman in partnership with 4iG Space and Defence Technologies' HUSAT program for Hungary. The satellite will be based on the GEOStar-3 platform and is intended to provide secure Ka-band communications services.

The HUSAT program represents the largest privately initiated and financed satellite program in Hungary and the Central and Eastern European region. Within the framework of the program, the company plans to launch, deploy, and operate one geostationary (HUGEO) satellite and eight (6+2) low Earth orbit (HULEO) Earth observation satellites by 2032.

The mission is designed to establish Hungary�s first independent geosynchronous communications capability, supporting both government and commercial communications across the region. The satellite will enhance national security by ensuring secure, sovereign-controlled data transmission infrastructure while also enabling broader telecommunications services.

The spacecraft will be manufactured by Northrop Grumman using its flight-proven GEOStar-3 Bus satellite bus, a platform widely used for commercial and military communications missions worldwide. Collaboration with 4iG Space and Defence Technologies reflects a broader industrial partnership aimed at strengthening Hungary�s domestic space and defense capabilities.

Technical details of the satellite have not been fully disclosed. It will operate in geosynchronous orbit and carry Ka-band payloads for secure, high-throughput communications.
