Theme: Somatic Stability

We are very excited to announce the return of an enhancement of GSY called Somatic Stability™. 

This new Gentle Somatic Yoga® (GSY) inspired method includes the blending of mat Pilates with the neuroscience of GSY. This innovative technique builds core strength and supports bone density, while at the same time re-programming muscles to significantly increase flexibility.

It is co-facilitated with experienced yoga teacher-trainer, Pilates trainer, and GSY-Certified Practitioner, Rachael Shepherd, and James Knight.

Part of the philosophy of Gentle Somatic Yoga is creating harmony and balance throughout one’s entire Soma, with this in mind Somatic Stability was created. This session will provide you with a deeper connection to your inner strength as well as tools and techniques to offer participants who are looking to improve their balance and coordination, increase bone density, and improve muscular strength. Inspired by mat Pilates and through combining the technique of pandiculation, Somatic Stability can be modified for all ages and abilities.

Format & Replay Access

Each Somatic Sanctuary™ livestream workshop includes:

  • 90 minutes of guided, experiential somatic movement
  • Optional 30-minute live Q&A with James Knight and guest facilitators

Themes change monthly and are designed to support whole-self nourishment and nervous system regulation.

Continuing Education Units (CEUs) are available for yoga teachers, yoga therapists, and bodyworkers.

Can’t join us live? No problem! All registered participants receive access to the replay video for 30 days after the event. After that, the video will be archived and available for long-term viewing inside our Somatic Wellness TV library.

Through this journey of deep self-care we invite you will learn and embody:
these Gentle Somatic Yoga’s key principles:

Interoception: sensing your body from the inside/out. Through building more internal awareness, this skill assists you in self-healing and invites a greater sense of peace and wellbeing

With an attitude of exploration and discovery, learn how you can reconnect with the abandoned parts of yourself, due to stress, and to become whole again

Learn how to discern the important difference between stretching - versuspandiculation and also fitness - versuswellness

Embody a series of Somatic Yoga Movement Flows® to erase chronic pain, stiffness, mis-aligned posture, and other effects of stress throughout the soma (body). These Flows can be easily learned and implemented into a daily home practice

Discover areas of Sensory Motor Amnesia (SMA). SMA happens within the body when muscles stay contracted regardless of your best efforts to release them. SMA can happen as a result of overuse of specific muscle groups, accidents, surgery's, and other traumatic experiences.

Through Gentle Somatic Yoga muscles can be repatterned out of Sensory Motor Amnesia. When this happens you can retake control over your muscles and return to ease and freedom of movement.

Our intentions for offering a sliding scale price is to:

  • Acknowledge the folks whose jobs have been affected by the current pandemic that is still ongoing
  • Recognize our friends in countries where the US dollar conversion rates are not in their favor
  • To attract new participants who haven’t tried this method of therapeutic and healing movement practice

Accessibility

Each Somatic Sanctuary workshop will be recorded and available for viewing 30 days after the event.  Replay recording links will be sent via email up to three days after the workshop. (Thank you in advance for your patience in regards to this timing. There is much for us to do on the backend of our website to make this recording available to you).

James Knight, E-RYT, CHSE, is the Founder of Gentle Somatic Yoga® and has been an integrative therapist and experienced yoga teacher for over 30 years. He is recognized as one of the early pioneers bridging the fields of Somatics and Yoga, bringing neuroscience-informed movement together with mindful, embodied practice.

James is a certified Hanna Somatic Educator through the Novato Institute for Somatic Research and Training. One of his unique gifts is the ability to translate the principles of Hanna Somatics into accessible, compassionate movement experiences that support nervous system regulation, pain relief, and healthy aging.
