Alright Mastodon, I'm looking for work.
Senior software developer, specializing in low-level, embedded, and systems programming. Previous work includes video compression (developer on AV1 and AV2), silicon verification, and scientific/numerical software. Full CV/resume available on request.
Primarily looking for remote work, but would consider in-person in the UK if the circumstances are right.
Available for either contract work through the company I run (easiest route if you're outside the UK), or direct employment.
Tagging #FediHire for visibility.

TAKE ACTION: No tech for ICE!
Today we're launching an action aimed at 🇨🇦 company Hootsuite 🦉, a registered B corp required by its certification to respect human rights... and a company actively seeking a billion dollar "social listening" contract with ICE.
If you want to tell them to tear those contracts up and permanently guarantee they will never provide their tools to ICE or DHS, take 30 seconds to speak up here!
Tell Hootsuite: No Tech for ICE!
Hootsuite.com promised to cut ties with ICE in 2020. Now they’re seeking billion-dollar contracts to help ICE monitor social media. 🚩 As a B Corp, they should protect rights—not build surveillance tools.www.openmedia.org

@anne_twain Sort of. More info here: wix.com/blog/social-listening
But tools that facilitate this are generally dual use and can easily be used to facilitate old-fashioned specific spying. And it being 2026 ICE as client, well...
Social listening: What it is and why it’s so important for your business
Managing social networks is a lot more than responding to comments and posting clever content. To get to know your audience and interact in ways that will speak to them most appropriately takes social listening skills.Blake Stimac (Wix Blog)
🥳🎉Yay! We won Minnesota! ICE is out! Somali people will no longer be stopped by ICE for being Somali! Now they're back to being stopped by cops for being Black!
5 year olds will no longer be detained for being immigrants like Liam Ramos! We're back to detaining 4 year olds after shooting their dad!

Now listen! Here's what we're going to do! We're going to decrease ICE funding, and increase police funding! We can't have any ICE abuse, but we need more police abuse!
🙂🙃
And I don't want any of you ungrateful Black men that have had guns pointed in your face for no reason to complain about it!🤡
We can't have ICE driving to elementary schools and following school buses! That is horrific! Barbaric! Abusive!
We're back to stationing police officers in elementary schools and on school buses! That way they can beat and arrest Black children without even having to drive over from the station!🤡
Long shot: do I know anybody in Europe who can provide two dozen 12 row, 80 column punch cards, preferably punched with a specific text? (no advertising)
Background: August of this year marks 45th anniversary of a Nixdorf Computer apprenticeship, and we're meeting. I thought it would be cute to present colleagues with a punch card (which is what we first programmed on) as a souvenir.
Obviously I'd be very willing to pay for the service!
Boosts appreciated.

I am at peace with not visiting US potentially ever again. I studied the country at degree level, traversed it in the wake of 9/11 and believe that some of its national parks are the most spectacular places of natural beauty I’ll ever witness. I have had positive interactions with all the Americans I’ve known and worked with.
But it’s leadership’s decent into fascism cannot be ignored, for I have documented that too with my own eyes and social media posts.

The easiest ways to run Snowflake is by using Tor Browser, Orbot, or installing the browser add on in your current browser. Extra capacity helps people in Iran stay connected when the network comes back online.

Hootsuite signing a contract with ICE in this environment is profoundly shameful.
They know very well their social media monitoring tools will be misused to attempt to punish ICE's targets and citizen protestors.
We deleted our account with them, others should too!

I visited Gaza in 2009, just months after the Cast Lead massacre. What I saw then shocked and changed me — and there are no words for what has been destroyed now.
All previous narratives are buried under the rubble in Gaza.
We need to end this genocide and dismantle Israel’s apartheid system. Canada and the world must act now.

Dear Journalists,
If a government official gives a statement that is easily disproven by multiple angles of high quality video, it is ok, encouraged even, to call them out on it in real time. That's called doing a journalism.
Secondly, although you all work for different media outlets, there is no reason why you can't sort of 'team up' and keep pressing the issue rather than letting them wriggle out by completely changing the line of questioning. This is also known as doing a Journalism.
Thanks!

GDP calculations are inflation-adjusted and independent of forex rates. Economists go to great lengths to estimate the changes in real output, independent of currency rates.
Not that debasing the dollar doesn't have real effects on inflation, cost of external goods, travel, and the like. But you can't just say "dollar down 10%, therefore recession".
To see why, try the logic in reverse ... If the dollar became 10% stronger against foreign currencies, would that mean our economy grew by 10%? Not at all.
I was wondering when a reporter would uncover this.
So BitLocker is super secure, right? Well... BitLocker recovery keys are backed up to Microsoft's Cloud - and they give them out to law enforcement on request. Using the BitLocker recovery key, you can just unlock the device without a PIN etc.

Men if you want more diversity on the Fediverse you need to speak up and call in your peers. You need to educate them and if they persist ban them. Make it clear they aren't welcome.
Otherwise you're making it clear we aren't welcome.

You prob know this already, but if you duck-search, you can go to a slightly different entry point at noai.duckduckgo.com to do web searches without AI slop dumping on you.
I see they've dressed up the landing page there! Now more obviously non-AI. I mean, it's a selling feature, so yeah, go to town guys.
(if you still google things, consider the duck search! it's worked well for me for years, and the non-ai version is a nice step forward).

There is a petition on the UK Parliament website to legally recognise nonbinary as a gender – which would include an X marker on UK passports for nonbinary people.
The deadline to sign is March 2026 and at the time of writing only 213 people have signed.
Let's show them the power of the Fediverse. At 100,000 signatures, the petition will be debated in Parliament.
