PC Gaming@lemmy.ca•Amazon expected this co-op party game to draw in 100,000+ active players, but it hit an all-time peak of just 320 on Steam and now it's closing for good just 6 months after it launchedEnglish
74·4 days agoamazon marketing basically put all their advertising budget by making mr beast create an event themed around it, and most people didnt get the memo that it was an actual game.
if you dont watch him, or know someone who watches him, you basically would have never known. similar to how most pc players werent aware of concord at launch because its only advertisment was if you happen to watch state of play, a sony event.

just dont expect either to be very performant or popular
I do it (california). Build some basic rapport with the bus drivers, sometimes if your marginally late and youre regularly at your stop, they might do things like wait an extra minute for you.
Not that I need it personally, as im typically very early, but have seen regulars get special treatment on my ride to work becuase of being, well regulars.

Australia@aussie.zone•‘The whole family is destroyed’: Australia’s inheritance disputes aren’t just increasing – they’re becoming messierEnglish
1·11 days agothe will only gets so far. for example there have been cases where children of a family have completely abandoned their parent/s, and a 3rd part good samaritan came along to help said person for years before their eventual death, and the will gave the inheritance to the good Samaritan, which causes the blood children to object.
the only clearcut way is to have the parties in attendance while the will is being written so that any objections wpuld get aired out while said person is alive and can make the call
i love the madness that is mounting the stock cooler onto the back of the case with the heatsink still on
If you need an actual example story on how something like this can happen.
you know the old stuff where teachers are like, you need to do math manually, youll never always have a calculator in your pocket (of course in retrospect its almost the opposite given smartphones). this particular case was TOO accommodating, and allowed her to use text to speech services to do work, so she never learned how to “read”

Games@lemmy.world•The developers of PEAK, explaining how they decided on pricing for their game. English
14·21 days agono, completely valid, but pricing is a psychological question rather than a math question for some.
reason for example products are priced with X.99
some people se it as cost X amount, others (like youself) see it as X+1 amount. the 0.99 is the extreme end of the psychology and choosing 8 in the case of peak increases number of people who dont see it at the higher price
when it comes to food, you have to consider the culinary classification over the biological one.
e.g the berry situation (e.g strawberries aren’t berries, but bananas are, culinarily its the opposite). mushrooms are all classified as vegetables culinarily. Tomatoes are fruit biologically, but culinarily vegetables

Programmer Humor@programming.dev•Virgin Framework vs Chad ThinkPad
32·30 days agonot the poster but gen 1 framework 13s has a cmos battery issue that when fully depleted, the laptop will not boot from off state because of how the recharge circuit was wired to the battery.
so if your laptop was in sleep for an extremely extended period of time, you wouldnt be able to turn it on without either replacing the cmos battery or soldering a single wire to fix it.

Programmer Humor@programming.dev•Virgin Framework vs Chad ThinkPad
47·1 month agoas a person who uses a framework 16, and deals with returned lease laptops as a job, people are overstating how “durable” thinkpads are.
of course image of course is a joke, but thinkpads advatage isnt necessarily durability, but how cheap replacement parts are because of how many are leased and eventually returned.
frameworks friction is cost and availability, but strength is ease of repair. lenovos is part availability and cost.

a hacked switch can run linux. as for the steam deck running the switch UI, i’d imagine its just a screenshot

Cyberpunk 2077@lemmy.world•Cyberpunk 2077 VR mod flatlines, after CD Projekt file DMCA strike and request its creator drop their paywall
11·1 month agousually when it comes to this situation, its part branding that its meant to hook into a specific game and using the games name/trademark to functionally sell something.
if it was advertised as a geneeic vr thing that latches onto games, thats one thing. its another to advertise it as VR mode for Cyberpunk 2077.
i dont think either side was wrong. but more that how the dev acted after the fact doesnt paint himself in good light. he could have silently removed the mod and people would have critisized him less (there are hardliners who will complain, but both are in the right to do what they did)
yes, now i can know its natural
in bings credit, it gave me the archive links to rock band 4s removed content for uhh… file existance purposes that google outirght scrubs out.
the mistake was assuming the upper limit ended at 100

Hardware@lemmy.world•RAM shortage chaos expands to GPUs, high-capacity SSDs, and even hard drivesEnglish
12·1 month agoprices can go down, they just dont publicly announce why.
for example, after covid functionally ended and the cryptoboom crashed, Nvidia and AMD over ordered on dies. so there was a flood of Ampere and RDNA2 gpus they needed to get rid of. because of the flood, it killed the launch value of Lovelace and RDNA3.
Ampere stock was legitamitely bad that when EVGA left the gpu sales market, one of the biggest reasons was because Nvidia forced AIBs to buy up their ampere stock if they wanted any lovelace stock.

thats the path of fast food chains now. get popular by being good, expand quickly, sell to private equity. Jersey mikes went PE early 2025. Daves hot chicken also went PE last year so expect it to go down the shitter soon if it hasn’t already.
